All... for some time now, I've had a bug in my rear to build/hobble together an arrow shooting pistol. For the novelty of it, I dont think I can justify the Ranchero, but I'll admit I've been tempted.

I know that there has been a couple made off a PRod configuration, but my attempt so far with smaller carbon shafts and a HiPak 2240 have failed quite miserably.

So my next step is to get some of the nocks for the .35 air bolts and make shorter arrows for my .35 pistol. With 81grain pellets, it's hitting 50-ish fpe. I'm hoping that the arrows will provide enough velocity to let me play a bit with them. My question is regarding the stability on the shorter arrows. My understanding is that on the regular sized .35 air bolts, the felt at the rear provides a sort of faux 'fletching' perhaps? I do know that I tested fletched vs non fletched arrows in my home built M10 arrow launcher and at 25 yards, I could tell no difference in accuracy. I'm assuming (hopeful) that the same will hold true for the shorter ones out of a pistol and I can possible use effectively at 15 or so yards. 'Effectively' for this case means only that I can stick it in an archery target with some semblance of accuracy. I dont plan on hunting elephant with it.

Any experience, thoughts or so forth?
 
Speaking on arrow stability from an arrowgun when you launch an arrow from the front and from a tube barrel it is very stable to begin with. When I started building arrows for my arrowgun I used the large fletching but have since began using arrows with the small fletching with no degradation in accuracy.

I built this arrow pistol with an RJ Machine breech, Bluefork Design gripframe and one of my Biovalves installed and ran it off of carts. It was fun but I tore it apart for some reason I fail to understand. I do remember I was going to shorten the arrows and that it was a gas hog even shooting at the low power level it was. I think that it shot in the175fps range so only 20+fpe since I was on carts.

I have had another in the werqs for several years. I have all of the parts but have not got around to putting it together yet. It will have a tank on it like in the bottom pic so I can get a decent shot count. It is based off of a, 9mm DAQ upper with, Cothran valve, System-X dropforward... Hopefully it will be done in the next couple of weeks now that you have me thinking about it again.

I did a carbine this way with a shortened discovery tube and 9mm DAQ upper running 150fpe with arrows 100fpe with pellets @ 2200-2400psi.

One could use a different breech, shorter barrel and turn the power down, or run it on co2 for eight or ten shots at a lower FPE.

I saw that viper and thought the same thing you did, I need one of those

and that pistol is just CO2, I've ben tempted to buy a brakeline and put it on a Chaser

would have to find some 9-10 inch aluminum arrows

Bio... wow.... those look sharp and is exactly what I am going for. Lower powered is totally fine. I think a part of my issue may be that I tried to use waaay too small diameter of arrow shaft. In fact, it wasnt even an arrow, but rather was a 5mm section of cf tubing. I'll definitely have to revisit and tear apart my Crosman stuff to see what I got. I know I dont want to use the HiPak and so will likely throw it up on the chopping block.

Mar... yep... that vid is what got me. Just looks interesting to me!

I cut arrows down for a 14.5" barrel, I was going to cut some for the REX pistol 10" barrel but never got around to it.

You are correct the felt will work as good as vanes, the rifling in the barrel provides the spin so that is really all you need.

In my opinion the REX pistols .357 .45 and .50 with Airbolts will make by far the best pistols arrow launchers.

The inline valve of those pistols lend themselves really well to heavier projectiles because the stay open longer as the weight increases.

Appreciate the response, sir. I'd forgotten about this post. Makes sense re the felt engaging the rifling. I should have figured that out!

The nock with the O-ring actually engages the rifling more but the felt does some too,.....if you ever want to go that route I have a 6 pack of .357 Airbolts and a bunch of spare nocks I'm going to put on the classified as soon as I get off my A$$ and take pictures 🤣

So the Evanix REX pistol is just a pistol and you can shoot both lead and Airbolts back to back, the airtank is detachable so you can also put in the rifle one and even the carbon fiber tank.

the only thing with the Airbolt is that you have to cut them down to length.

Good morning Nomadic Pirate 66, thanks alot for sharing this info, sounds very good cutting down the bolts is no issue, ive read you usually cut them to 14inch, i have a crossbow where i tend to use 12inch lenght ones (with 0.25inch or 6mm diameter), as my intent is to aim at topwater fish with a reel and line, and where 20 shots, or 15 at least without refilling would be appreciated (my shooting distance would be around 12yards)

Trying to understand how many shots can i get from that longer carbon full size bottle version, and what caliber do i need or is really appropriate, the differences between them... 0.25, 0.35, and 0.50


Probably i would need to carry some extra full size bottles (480 cc )

i belive this is the version, which i also aprreciate the fact it can shoot bullets-pellets too, that is amazing, (i've seen there's a model called Evanix Rex BA too, not sure if its the same) now i've also seen some videos but none with arrows yet.....

Yup that is the REX pistol, if you shooting fish at 12 yards then you probably better off shooting at half power ( the REX has a full power cocking and a half power like Sam Yang guns )

Cool ! im getting inspired here i confess, how many shots to you reckon one can get at half power, with that longer carbon full size bottle version, and would you reckon a 4500psi compressor could work to refill it ?

i heard vevor makes a new model that plugs into a 12v car battery, and that would be super for my fishing journeys.

I was also wondering if someone could share a photo of what this models looks like working with arrows
