Artemis M40 🎙 Semi-Auto

Managed to get a look inside the rifle much better made than previous efforts from SMK this snowpeak model seems to be better machined all around the semi-auto action appears to be activated in the shroud by back pressure on the Wight ring mechanism you can see in the pictures pushing the assembly back to cock the hammer and allow it to Spring forward again (I think the returning spring is somewhat oversized) engaging a pellet into the barrel. the white ring you see on the end of the semi-auto mechanism appears to be Delrin, although I'll bet it's touted as PTFE and is virtually the same size as the aluminium that is running in I do not believe this giving a good enough seal to allow pressure to push the cocking mechanism back. I'll have a bit of a tinker and post the results.

I am convinced the pressure in the shroud on the firing cycle, which pushes the cocking mechanism back is not overcoming the spring in the shroud (block end) which also has to fight the hammer spring (thus cocking the rifle) so both the spring that returns the cocking mechanism back to it's resting position and the hammer spring have to be overcome by the air in the shroud. In part, this is due to the quite inaccurate delrin or PTFE seal which does rattle in the shroud, however an o-ring nitrile otherwise makes the mechanism too tight. I will either have to manufacture a new seal, or experiment with the return spring as stated above.

Took 1 coil off the return spring inside the shroud, and flattened and ground, and now rifle works fine (semi auto)

I believe it could easily suffer another coil taken off, though I think with pellets in in it will cock sufficiently well. I took a short video unfortunately the forum doesn't allow uploading videos or as best I can tell it doesn't.

Sorry guys but I jumped on the Leshiy2 band wagon and purchased one. Won't be getting the M40 after all.

@Mac-Attack good luck with the Leshiy 2. I can see myself getting one in the near future too. I've had Lelya 2.0, and Edgun's are great.

But for now, I'll probably get the synthetic Marauder SAM when they become available. I know they still have some issues with the magazines, etc., but Crosman's warranty is great for piece of mind. They are in New York, and I can easily return for repairs or refund.

If the M40 had a similar warranty, I'd probably already own one.

Yeah, I think what people forget is i was going to get the M40 with the understanding that if it broke down, I was going to repair or have someone repair it for me. It was going to be a "project gun." Aside from that SPA Artemis is still a respectable company with some of the best budget bullpups currently on the market.

I wanted to upload a short video of the M40 cycling itself and show you (my opinion) one reason not to buy. There is a massive degree of bounce somewhere in the system and on the video I shot you can see it shaving pieces of brass from itself, as it re Cox itself and you can also see the pellet probe bouncing back a good distance probably why it came back to me with a moderator of mashed pellets. 

the first picture that looks like a miniature shotgun is what came from the barrel firing dry without this road or moderator on and shows that the shaving of pellets is occurring at the magazine end. If I could upload the video you would see properly why that is happening too.

I ended up having to make a fractionally bigger delrin seal for the cycling action since the one that came with the rifle was so loose as to prevent the gun cycling half the time. the last picture is an attempt to show bits of lead around of this seal which had damaged it. The middle picture is the pellet pieces I removed from the moderator.

@TheTurn thanks for detailed description of the problems you are having with the M40. I guess it's not ready for prime-time yet. Are you able to return the M40, or will you just continue to work on it? It looks like you have some pretty good gunsmithing skills.

The Benelli M3 Convertible is much better than the M1, M2, or M4. It is the most reliable Benelli in the M series due to the fact that it can be switched to pump mode. It is a very nice shotgun and is very accurate with slugs

And what exactly does that have to do with the SPA semi auto pellet rifle?
