Artemis P15 Owners?

My Recommendation would be the Kozak : Here's a good comparism to P15...

Another Eastern bloc semi- heavyweight. The Kozac shows at 6.6# bare. My P15 is lighter with scope and rings, and a dovetail to Picatinny adapter.

The only guns other than the P15 that were acceptable to me, were the Leshiy Classic (not the L2) but a big trade-off as only single shot, and the FX Wildcat Compact. The FX Wildcat Compact is close to the perfect all around gun considering weight, accuracy (short and medium range), multi-shot, and forward cocking, but at a substantially higher cost.

Agreed however original poster does not want to tinker, so the Kozak fits the bill or wildcat compact, I have 3 custom built from scratch p15's and love the platform, for me they work as I love to mod and customize...

The concept of the rifle, a light, powerful bullpup is great, but there are pitfalls. You need to be a tinker, there are no parts available or service.

If you combine that with poor quality control and you have the potential for a several hundred dollar paper weight.

I recently had to make a trigger linkage. The lack of parts keeps me awake at night, enough so that at this point in my life, I will never buy another Snow peak rifle and due to how Diana dropped the ball on this, they are off my list also.

I love mine, however the best advice I can give is to follow the advice I got from Frank, there are far better choices out there.

A big +1 to everything said above. I love my .177cal and .22cal Skyhawks, but they both required new barrels and a LOT of work to get shooting exceptional. Do yourself a favor and START with a Taipan.

Where can you get the custom barrel for the P15? I've been thinking for a long time about getting one as my backup gun. I know the barrel is a lottery, I've read so many issues with those barrels?

Or should I just look at the new Akela?

Steer clear of the P15 for a backup gun. If you own a P15/Skyhawk, then you need a backup gun. Trust me. I own one of those money pits. Nothing fun about sinking your first stack of money into a gun just to get it to be normal. Then another stack to get it to have competitive power.

A comment like this is enough to me go to another direction! :) Thanks for the insight!

The only things the P15 has going for it is the Ti tube and minimalist balsa wood stock. It is so light and handles so well. I even bought a Skyhawk for a parts gun with the plan to use the nice walnut stock on my P15. But suddenly the gun didn’t handle as nice as the minimal P15 stock. Many better choices in 2020 for a mid priced bullpup. It’s a good gun to get your feet wet as an airgun machinists.

Terry,

I went down this road 3 years ago seeking what your after. Junk! Total waste of time & money! The pebble remains in your hand. Taipan every day of the week & twice on Sunday - BAR NONE! Period end of story!

Side note: should Taipan bring to market a forward cocking lever in .30 caliber with a decent shot count, titanium components, utilizing the same platform, you Sir will have yourself a dream come true. We all will! Taipan are you listening? Take the market by STORM! Go big or go home - I truly believe this will happen. Taipan is king for a true hunter, under pressure, when you only get one chance to take the shot.

I bought a P35 in October of last year and I love it. I got it from Krale. It shares many parts with the P15 but has the cocking handle up near the trigger instead of back in your face. I shoot from my left shoulder so the P15 arrangement would not work well at all but the P35 works very well. The magazine sits flush so no problem there.

It is pretty much a "fix it yourself" gun coming from the Netherlands but others have said Krale is good and will at least sometimes even pay for return shipping if you get it and there is a problem like a leak that appears right away. It comes with a complete set of O-rings and tools. I've changed the regulator setting on mine which is not super easy, you have to degas and open the air chamber. But it is not very hard either. I've also adjusted the trigger which is easy but you have to take the gun out of the stock. There is one screw, with a lock nut, you use to change sear engagement. I have also done Aaron Cantrel's hair curler mod in the baffle to make it a bit quieter. But it was only about 85 db stock. It is now low 80s to high 70s db at about 32 fpe (mine is a 25 and likes FTTs, I turned the regulator down to get it shooting 850-875 fps). I often see ES under 20 and can get over 50 shots on a 250 bar fill.

I find it harder to shoot well from the bench than my Avenger. But when I do my part I get 1/8th to 1/4 inch groups at 25 yards. If I really let up on the concentration they may drift to 1/2 inch or a bit more. It did the job on 17 squirrels for me this squirrel season.

The P35 has a pretty heavy plastic stock so it weighs about .8 lbs more than the P15. The front cocking mechanism is probably part of this too. But 5.2 lbs is still quite light. If you put a light scope on it you could stay under 6 lbs.

I plan to buy another one in 22 when Krale gets them back in stock. It's my favorite due to the light weight, accuracy, quiet without a moderator and short. I actually wouldn't mind a couple more inches length to get a 500 mm barrel but it's a very nice gun IMHO. I'm sure there are nicer but it is better built than my Avenger for sure. It appears to be higher priced but not if you factor in the moderator the Avenger needs.

I too picked a 177 P35 from Krale. That was the first time I used Krale and the service was unbelievably fast!! The P35 is a huge upgrade from from the P15. I really like the stock, the light weight and the forward cocking lever. After my experiences with the P15, I picked up a CZ barrel, a Huma reg and a plenum extension and wow, it is a tack shooter! It was maxing out at 15 FPE in its stock configuration and after the upgrade is now doing 22 fpe with 10.5 g pellets. It's one of favorite airguns to shoot. I am having a hard time finding extra mags so I was excited to learn that Stoeger will be carrying the P35 with their own stock design. I am waiting for their XM1 Shark to be released so I can get one in .22. https://usa.stoegerairguns.com/xm1-bullshark

I've had 1 in 25 for several years. Honestly my favorite squirrel gun lest the rear cocking.

However, with the luck of the barrel draw, I had to swing for a LW barrel to get accuracy.

Now good to 70 yds dependably. 50 a no brainer, so you see a 20 yd quirrel shot will drop them out of the biggest hickory or oak tree!

Tried many scopes, settled on 10x40 immersive and 4x12 vector. Both are excellent. Even do some wraith hunting in the dark of the moon.
