Article/Blog Post: “Where Are Bushnell Scopes Made or Manufactured?”

I thought this was an interesting read albeit I haven’t found other articles or posts that are as broad sweeping to support or substantiate the author’a claims. If you have insight, input, or know differently please share your information and source(s).

This is true for most scope brands.

Vortex has three different levels, made in the Philippines, China and Japan.

Same with Burris, hell even Leupold has parts sourced from overseas.

Zeiss sells a $500 pair of binos made to their specs; you want German made Zeiss with Schott glass?? you pay $1K

Each level comes with its own QA specs, material specs and coatings.

the lower end gets inspected at Higher intervals with lower reject criteria. as you go up the ladder, the lens and most importantly, the coatings increase in quality, and the reject rate criteria tightens up.

The coatings are the special sauce when it comes to better optics.

I have a Bushnell Scope mad in Japan at LOW (Light Optical Works) and the quality is excellent. I also have an Athlon made in China, the clarity is good, but nothing special, and the turrets are meh.

Maybe 15+ years ago you could get "real" Zeiss bino's for 1k, almost double that today to start for a "real" zeiss, triple+ for their best. Only thing in the 1k range is the conquest line, which is another made for the american market price point stuff that should not have the zeiss name attached to it. Any Zeiss binos less than 1500, may as well be a different brand, don't remember exactly when, but I think it was the 90's when they first started making seriously lower priced stuff driven by the american market. Used to be they had their best, damn near as good as their best, and sometimes a carry-over when they came out with a real upgrade and the carry-over for a year or two would have some discount to it. Same thing with Schott, they will make anything from decent/ok to great glass, depends what you order. Just saying schott doesn't mean it is good glass.

According to the above “Scope Reviews” source, the Bushnell Engage scopes are made in S. Korea and are primarily made using 1” tubes. I have an FFP Bushnell Engage that’s built in a 30mm tube that says “Made in China.” I have to take a closer look at my Nitro to see where it was manufactured.
