FT Match Report Arlington Sportsman’s Club 12/16/2023
If you experienced the cold and rainy weather on Friday as Scott and I did while setting up the course, you would expect Saturday to be bad too, but it wasn’t! Anyone who missed this month’s match missed one of the prettiest days of shooting in December in Texas! It was cold in the morning but warmed up to 62F and Sunny with 5-10mph winds out of the north during the match. There were many comments from the shooters like “What an awesome day!”. When Scott and I setup the course on Friday, the goal was to make a course that offered more targets at ranges where the shooting score analyses website
https://airgunshoot.com/ indicated that the hit percentages were low. For our shooters on our courses, those ranges were 45-55 yards. So this course had as many targets at those distances than at shorter distances that our field can accommodate. The course was 56 shots on 10 lanes with one off-hand lane and one kneeling lane. Nine lucky shooters from as far as Tulsa showed up to contest the course. The average Troyer this month was
33.6 before the wind modifier, SD 6.06, Avg Dist 31.6 yds, and Avg KZ 1.01”. We started on time at 10:00am after short safety and rules meeting.
Almost everyone finished by 12:45, but it took my 3-man squad until 1:45pm to finish up. By that time, Scott and Brian had picked up all the other lanes and put them away in the barn. Timers are a good thing and help keep the match moving along. We may start implementing them at monthly matches to keep shooters moving along. Thanks again to everyone who helps me setup, run and takedown the course each month. Kudos to all of you!!
The scores were a little lower than normal today, I believe due to the higher Troyer and the wind. Hunter PCP had 4 shooters competing. 1st place was Brian Stafford shooting his FX Crown with a very respectable on this day, 47/56. Second place and only one point behind was Mark Welker finished shooting 46/56 with his RAW TM1000. 3rd place went to Dave Cole with a 36/56 shooting his FX Royale.
We had one WFTF Piston, two WFTF PCP, one Open PCP, and one Unlimited shooter today. You can see all the scores, finishing positions, and equipment list below. Congrats to everyone and I hope that you had fun!
New custom Poker Chips given away to 1st place in each class.
Finishing positions
Take a look at the growing content of our shooting score analyses website
https://airgunshoot.com/ that shows the average score on each lane, your score on each lane, your hit percentage by lane or near/mid/far targets, how you compare to your class average, your class winner, and the HOA winner. Thanks to Scott Cotton for his work on this, you should be able to tease out some areas where you can improve and hopefully finish higher in the standings. I used it to layout the course for this month. With the current results, the next match may have more offhand and kneeling lanes so that shooters can practice those positions. Send me your comments!
My hit % chart:
I need to work on Standing and the long shots looks like.
Our next match will be on Saturday, January 27 which is our usual 4th Saturday. This match will start promptly at 10:00am.
See you at the next match,

Send me pics that you take during the match, and I’ll add them here in the report. No one likes to look at a bunch of pictures of me and Scott.
