Ataman AP16 Review

My newest project! I did some pellet testing today with both the Standard and the Compact Barrel/air cylinder combos. Here are the results:

Accuracy is really amazing! I did mount a micro red dot on it, which helped a lot. The stock iron sights are black and really hard to get a good sight picture. I did but a white dot on either side of the rear sight and the top of the front sight, which helped tremendously, but the red don't was way easier to zero! The 15.89 and 18.13 grain JSB's gave the best groups, and the was not that bad at 12.75/13.39 FPE with the compact barrel and 14.76/15.51 FPE with the standard barrel.

I also have a DonnyFL adapter and 0db Compact LDC, which makes it very backyard friendly! So far, I'm quite happy with it and have a tactical leg holster that fits the compact perfectly, just without the 0db LDC attached.

I hadn't thought of that! They are only 7 shot, so that would help prolong a shooting session. Spares are only $20 each, so not priced too bad.

I also forgot to mention the trigger, it's better than some of the triggers on some of my rifles! And, the air cylinders can be swapped while under pressure. Just make sure you have it cocked when you screw on the filled cylinder or it will be unfilled before you know what happened! 😁

Those are good numbers! I'd probably turn it down a little myself, but you probably would only pick up a couple shots on the overall count. So may not be worth tearing into it.

Barrel on compact is fairly short. Must be loud shooting that fast. I've got a 7.6" .22 and have it sitting at 550fps. Sound signature is really toned down versus say 625fps (with 16gr)

I've been tempted to pick one of these up. Almost did had it not been snagged so quickly from the classifieds!

What red dot did you end up going with?

The red dot is one I picked up from AliExpress. I was surprised at how fast it shipped, it was here in a week!

Well, the honeymoon is over! Went to shoot it some this evening and it feels like something is binding, bad. To the point I can hardly cock it. I put a couple drops of silicone oil on the bolt, but it didn't help. Sometimes I can't cock it at all, other time it's just really stiff. I sent an e-mail to PA requesting an RMA and a replacement, not sure what's up with this one.

How easily should these cock? I have seen some videos on YouTube that say the action is really smooth and easy to cock, so I think something's gone wrong on this one.

Ooo I have one very similar. Its works quite well. But what does bug me, is the sight must be removed to replace the battery. Not a huge deal, but the trijicon's it was based on have something like a 2 yr battery life. Mine is about 3-5 months depending. Then I have to re-zero. Mine has no buttons....

Does yours dim or power down?

😢 That's a shame. I'd be super tempted to try and repair it, but who knows how happy they'd be to warrantee if you did. Hope the next one is a winner.

Try one or both-

First remove the magazine is it still hard to cock even without a magazine?

THEN-

Adjust the trigger and or remove hammer and spring check for any obstruction wipe the inside with a clean rag and reassemble.

There was a rather interesting PA situation in which the buyer of a NEW Diana Skyhawk had issues then sent it back for REFUND then bought that SAME gun as a refurb for a lot cheaper it was the SAME gun he sent for refund.

Asked him why he said he felt better paying a lot less for it and at least it's been gone through and issues fixed.

I’ve had mine for 4 years and never had that happen before. It really is smooth as butter. Might have something to do w the magazine? I’ve read that some people have had the magazine not cycle for some reason but never happened to mine

About the red dot, yes, it does power off and it does have different brightness settings. The buttons on either side are marked + and - and then turn it on and adjust the brightness.

Yep, I've had it less than a week, so it will probably go back. I don't want to chance breaking something trying to fix it myself.

Odoyle, it's the same with to without the magazine in the breech. I do think it's something with the hammer or hammer spring, but don't want to fiddle with it since I received it this way. I'll send it back for a refund, keep your eye on the refurb section!

This morning I took it apart as far as I felt comfortable doing so. I removed the grips, the handle, the top piece and the side cover for the trigger. Essentially everything held in place by screws. I'm not sure how to get to the hammer or hammer spring, it appears there are a could pins holding that part on. I don't want to attempt removing those and marring anything that could void the warranty, so at this point, I stopped and am waiting to hear back from PA. Also, before doing any of this, it's no longer cocking at all, so I suspect something broke and is impeding the full return of the hammer to the cocked position.

What Crosman variant is that Long_Gun?
