Ataman BP17 - loving it now (arrived with very low fps)

I just received an Ataman BP17 from Pyramyd. Filled it to 250bar, loaded a pellet and pop over the chrono. A whopping 147 fps. Talk about efficiency, huh?

Checked the hammer spring setting and confirmed I am able to adjust the BP17 over a range from 130 - 172 fps.

Any thoughts on things to look at? This gun is not worth fully taking apart yet to troubleshoot but willing to check a few things. 

I had high hopes for a fun little gun, but maybe a return is the best option.

Update 5/29:

BP17 is up and running and now that I can quiet it down (see most current update post) I'm a happy camper.
 
I got an Ataman BP17 and live that little gun, wish the shot count wss higher, but the accuracy is awesome.



On your low fps, I would agree with Yo, shoot it all the way down, but not to zero, definitely double check that hammer spring.

Since you just got it, would send it back to PA. They will cover your shipping and get you a new one out. Definitely not great news, but would not be the first time someone had to send a gun right back (me included)



PM me when you are ready and I can share a few tips on removing that end cap for a Sump.....that was an ugly job.

Thing is I would gone for an Uragan Compact, but I don't find it very attractive.

Yo - I did shoot it down from 250 to around 200, then let the air out down to 120 and tried it. It degasses itself starting around 100bar. FPS was consistently sucky all the way down. 

I want to pull the hammer out to check that there isn't something obstructing it, but you have to knock a pin out to do that. I'm hesitant to start knocking out pins as that usually leaves marks.

If you were shooting a 15.9g pellet at 170 fps, with an efficiency of just 1fpe/cuin it would take about 300 shots to go from 250bar to 200bar. So I seriously doubt it's valve lock.

What are you shooting into as a stop? If I were to shoot my mulch trap (with cardboard front) from approx 24" away I'm pretty sure the pellet would bounce back at 170fps. That's just 1fpe.

That $10 for10 makes you REALLY wonder. GUN LOTTERY? They should just ADD $10 to ALL their guns just so they DONT KEEP ON KEEPING ON getting bad press like this to CHECK THEM DAMN GUNS prior to shipping. AoA does this for FREE. That's why I keep on keeping on going back. AND NO I'm not a paid advertiser nor sponsor for AoA or ANYBODY. I suffer and pay just like everybody else here. Yo!

I don't have a chronograph, but by sound and pellet depth into my target, my BP-17 seems to be on par with my other PCP rifles.

Yea, the shot count is definitely nothing to brag about. And the safety is fiddly, but overall, I'm happy with mine.

I would highly recommend a chronograph with a shooting light fixture as a basic essential tool to keep a once in a while checkup on airguns in general I figure a $100-$150 investment is nothing compared to a $1000 GUN and if someone has more than 2 or 3 different guns I would say it's mandatory just having a doctor check up every 6 months even you're feeling on top of the world. There may come a time that it would be the guns fault when you start to miss your shots and you can verify those misses and just use your crony as proof you're still that awesome shooter you are. JMHO. Yo!

I think I found the issue...... not being one to step down for a challenge I pulled the whole gun apart checking everything along the way as I worked my way into the valve area. I thought I was going to find an obstruction somewhere, but nothing like this one. The TP was never machined all the way through and just a tiny pin hole to flow air.

What size drill bit would be recommended to open this up?
