Athlon Ares BTR G3 2.5-15x50

Tempted to get one in mil because it has a little more reticle thickness at .06 mil so it'd make a decent MPVO compared to some others on the market using thinner reticles, plus the G3 probably incorporates some internal and external upgrades. I prefer the look of those lower profile turrets for sure!

There's a G3 4.5-27x50 version as well.

The G3 Midas TAC 4-16 also has .06 mil reticle thickness so nearly a third as thick as before, and this could be a popular Hunter FT scope for 2025!

Visit Athlon's website because they have lot's of newer scopes coming out in 2025.

thats nice, who do you use to purchase a scope?

Thanks for the heads up! It would be nice to know what upgrades have been made (other than cosmetic and the inclusion of a hood), but I didn't see anything listed on the website yet. The Ares BTR GEN2 HD 2.5-15x50 is a GREAT scope for the money, while the ARES BTR GEN2 HD 4.5-27×50 is a dud for the money it costs.

It looks like the G3 Midas Tac's aren't listed yet. I'm interested in these too.

Yep.

The G2 Ares BTR 4.5-27 didn't work well with my eyes. Edit, I didn't get the G2 2.5-15 so I wouldn't know, I only had the G1 2.5-15 which could have been a better scope as far as having too easy to turn turrets.

Hopefully there were improvements for the G3's.

I hope they have improved image quality on the gen 3. I have a gen 2 4.5-27x and it is my most underwhelming scope, and I think it is Athlons worst deal for the money.

Yes we do.

IMHO, for whatever reason they didn't get the prescription right on that particular scope, or at the very least "a run/or batch" of them, because I've read of some people liking theirs??

This has got some nice features for a hunting rig. Though not the exact same magnification level of each, but similar specs otherwise, I'd like to see how this scope compares optically to the March F 1.5-15 and Nightforce NX8 2.5-20.

Did you see the C-Does comparisons video on SH about what he labels as IPVO's, or what we call MPVO's? It shows what the March 1.5-15 looks like in real life, which is similar to what my March shorty DFP 1-10 is like, and is pretty wonky the farther it gets to the periphery of the FOV. There's no way in the world I'd buy one solely because of that, which I was suspicious about with the announcement it had come out back then. Too short and too high of a Mag ratio!

I think the 4.5-27x50 is a solid scope for the $500 range - NOT for the $900 that they were selling it for. I feel like the 2.5-15x50 BTR's were way better than their price class indicated.

I did see it and s lot of other reviews. Those experiences and guy's sending some of them off to the factory under warranty because of the bad immage quality at high power was why I didn't buy one of those. I had wanted to when they first came out, and do buy new things to test, but not that expensive scope. At that price every one of them should have been flawless.

Still have my GEN2 on my RAW!
Which one - the 4.5-27x50 or the 2.5-15x50? I liked the 2.5-15x50 scopes so much I have had 3 of them at one time. Now I'm down to 1 on my RAW FT rig. My 22cal RAW just got upgraded to the ARES ETR 3-18-50.

The build quality of the ARES BTR vs ETR is about the same, but there is a noticeable increase in clarity with the ETR. I have another ARES ETR 3-18-50 ready to replace the BTR scope on my FT rig, but I need some warm weather to range it first. Probably won't happen until early summer. I like to range my scopes around 80°F so that I split the difference if I'm shooting between 60 - 100°.

Mine is the 2.5-15x50 FFP like yours! The 3-18x50 Ares ETR is a big step above the BTR in glass for sure plus the 34mm tube helps with light gathering 👍! Enjoy the new ETR glass om your RAW, that is the scope on my radar!

Do you find the turrets nicer in these recent ETR 3-18's?
On my 1st Gen ETR 4.5-30 the turrets were more distinct and felt a little more robust compared to my G2 4.5-27's. I didn't like the reticle in that ETR and eventually sold all three to get G2 Cronus 4.5-29's, on which I like everything about them expect no 10Y parallax and the IQ could be a tad better. I like the turrets on the G2 Cronus as much as my tier 1 scopes.
