Athlon CF 32 Tripod - Arca Issues

I'm having problems with torquing down the thumb screw that secures to the Arca rail. The rifle still slides on the rail clamps.

@EDventure What became of this? The clamping portion of that ballhead doesn’t look right. The way that it’s cocked outward on the upper right portion in the photo reminds me of picatinny scope ring base clamps when they are loose. Has it always done that when you loosened it up to mount in order to slide an arca rail into place? An arca clamp should slide evenly while opening and closing it. Innorel ball heads are affordable and worth a shot IMO. Haven’t had any issues with mine.

This looks off

Both sides should appear symmetrical. The side that the knob is on should move in and out evenly as the knob is turned. I haven’t seen any arca rail mounting systems that lean like the clamp on the base of scope rings when loosened/opened.

I agree. The clamping knob looks bent to me. Maybe it was bumped hard at some point.

For anyone with a similar problem, rather than sending back the entire tripod you might ask the folks at Athlon if you can remove the ball head and just send that, or for an even smaller package, remove just the Arca clamp from the ball head and send them one of those. I am sure they will take care of it at no charge with their excellent warranty.

If someone has a head with a problematic Arca clamp that doesn't have a lifetime warranty, you can buy just the clamp quite inexpensively on Amazon or Ebay.
