Athlon Midas Tac for Field Target

Update....

In the original post I said I'd eventually come back with some additional input after using the Midas Tac in some more matches, specifically Hunter class use.

In May I used a Midas in Open class (24x) to shoot a 49/52

June saw Hunter class (16x) matches with two different clubs. One was a 50/52 and the other a 45/48.

July was another Hunter class match and the score there was a 58/60.

For the three Hunter matches, only one of the misses can be attributed to a misranged target. I initially ranged one at 22-23 yards and missed, reranged for the second shot and it was more like 19yards. (Tiny kill zone and large scope height due to gun design). These were all ranged by focus, no bracketing.

So...I'm not trying to make the argument that the Midas Tac is THE scope for field target. In fact most ft competitors would consider it far beneath them.
But I am saying that it can be used in Open or Hunter and ranges by focus well enough to not be the cause of misses.

All but one of my ft guns see frequent pesting and plinking use. The Midas is a great all-around scope and can pull duty as an acceptable field target scope.

I’ve been using an argos gen 2 6-24x50 for field target and have been pretty happy with how it ranges and like the aplr6 i think it is reticle as you dont loose it in shaddows nearly as easily as that dot reticle + you have the illumination. Just got a helos 6-24x56 to test out it seems a bit brighter which im hoping will help even more on ranging than the argos. Time will tell. I think the athlon scopes are a good scope for the money.

What about the newer Athlon Heras lineup?

It seems to me that the 56mm objective lens, SFP, APRS7 reticle(calibrated @ 16x); would make this scope a winner for FT. It is heavier than the Midas for some reason.

I have one and it's a good scope but to be honest with you I think the Helos and argos GEN two range better. Also just center dot lights up not the whole reticle in the SFP. Only the FFP the entire reticle lights up. After having owned both now, sightron much better at ranging at 16x but 2x the money. I am going to try the Ares 15-60

Used two different Midas Tacs this past weekend at a monthly match. And more of the same.

Shot the official score as Open class so at 24x. 45/48, one miss cuz I was looked at the 16x marks (brainfart) other two misses were offhand.

Shot through again as Hunter (16x) with a different gun. 45/48 again. One miss was the wind, two other misses were offhand.

So again, Midas Tac can pull duty as a field target scope. May not be everybody's cup of tea, but is working for me.
