ive noticed that some of the YouTube guys were using NF scopes now they are using Athlon. At least that’s what I think I see. Anyone know the reasons and is this true! Thanks

Price, honestly. FFP, good quality, good reticles, and a fraction the price of the competition. I wouldn't confuse one with a vortex or nightforce, but they are just so much more reasonably priced and well reviewed it is no wonder a lot of people are using them myself included.

I have a as new athlon talos 4-14x44 that I’m not overly keen on. Would gladly trade for something else

IMHO, the higher end Athlon scopes, like the Midas TAC, compare favorably in all aspects with the lower end Nightforce scopes like the SHV...

I have had great luck with the Athlons. The biggest thing is the quality you get for the price. I have focused my use on the Ares and the Cronus. The Cronus is one of my favorite scopes, The Ares is very good as well, and really hard to beat for the price.

quality is very good it’s just for me the reticle is to fine. I like a little heavier reticle with mil dot If anyone wants it I’ll trade it depending on what ya have

I’m in need of an illuminated reticle and have been looking into going FFP.
Thinking the Athlon ARES BTR might fit the bill.

I've owned several of both . Just my 2c here .But IMO dollar for dollar Athlon is a better buy . Nightforce scopes are some of the most precise tracking scopes on the market .
However optically the three I've owned were below average for their price . They were on the higher magnification end of the scope spectrum but other scopes I owned at the time were brighter in same mag range for less.
The newer models do appear to be better but I haven't used one long enough to know.for sure .

Short answer you get what you pay for but we all have to balance that with what you can afford
i think you can buy scopes for between $ 500 and $1000 and be very satisfied. Who can afford $2000 and as much as $3500 for a scope especially for an air rifle.
The upper level Athlon scopes are more then acceptable.

I own the ares btr since few weeks and this scope is excellent. Even better than my midas tac optically speaking ( which is already very good).
Illumiation is also very nice and bright with off position between each lvl.
You will not be disappointed.

YTs usually use what sponsors want (usually not always), that being said I own Athlon scopes and love them!

You do Not get what you pay for,never will,sure if you got the money you can afford to get whatever you want,that said you will Always pay a lot more for the last 10% of improvement...I am talking hundreds of dollars more,do it if you can afford it,butt I think the money can go on better things than overpriced scopes that most people do not use for over 100yd shots.....
The most important part of optics buying is to Research,like what do you really need for your purpose....me I hate heavy scopes with useless doodads
OK,I am older and have less income to splurge on scopes.....Truthfully I have more time to research and less money to spend; I want the best bang for my buck.......That leaves out cheap scopes........and expensive scopes.....
I know it is wrong to generalize,butt I do anyhow....with research and maybe buying used you can start getting a good scope at $120....and good for 50 yds.....and it takes at the least $100 more to see better at $100 yes....
The thing my friends is the longer the distance you shot the better the optics you need....also the higher the power you use the better the optices you need......
Truth be told if I was rich I would research less and pay more,LOL.
These opinions can be nullified by your experiences.....as Jimi said,"Are You Experienced",LOL...

Very well put and being older and on fixed income limits what one can do boscoebrea nailed it on the head, years ago I would buy on impulse these days I make every dollar count

Good input guys. I own a NF and it’s a good scope. But my Leuplod (vx lll) works just as well for praire dogs. Avg 250-350 yds.
I just noticed some of these guys had switched back to Athlon and wondered if some of these guys preferred Athlon. For me, my Bushnell’s (banner and engage) work just fine for spanking squirrels and sparrows <50 yds.

I have an Athlon Talos, 3x12x40, side focus. It sits on my Talon SS .22. Very happy with it for the price, $150. Most of my shooting is done in the back yard, bird feeder defense. Nothing over 30 yds. Actually I usually set my variable scopes to 6x and would be just as happy with a fixed scope at that power.
Depends on your needs how good a scope you need, but yes I am satisfied with it for what I use it.

I've got to jump in here, I see comments about what "others" are using in videos or at matches, or talk of YouTubers switching brands, I don't think anyone has pointed out that a lot of these shooters are sponsored and don't pay for those expensive scopes (not all, I know) but it's a job to some of the shooters to show off those scopes and get "us" to buy them... I had the opportunity to shoot with some really high end scopes and all were nice, even though I had a choice of scopes, one of the biggest deciders for me was eye relief and reticle choice after clarity and brightness... I buy what works for me, my eyes and my rifles... Brands don't seem to matter so much, there's a scope at all price points to get the job done... Most scopes are made in China anyways... Probably at the same factory...
Personally I wasn't impressed with the Athlon scopes I've tried so far... Just my opinion of course...

Well said Ken, as you said most not all of the guys reviewing these high dollar scopes don’t pay a penny for them they are given them free of charge by the manufacturer/distributors to show people how great they are even if they aren’t that was told to me by one of them over the phone , think about it who is going to buy a $$$$ scope every other week out of their own pocket just to make a YouTube video about it common sense should tell people that I buy what I need and what works for me , some $100 are as good or better than that $800 scope,,, just ramblin here but

I've been using Bushnell Elites for more than 20 years now for competition and have been very happy with them other than ranging is an art, not a given. In recent years, a friend has drug me into long range and educated me some on the use of first focal plane and then there's EBR.....
That has led to purchasing a good number of scopes in the search for one that is CLEAR and precise, but still somewhat affordable, with a good holdover reticle. I have a Talos, Argos, and now Midas Tac, as well as many other brand models. Talos... not too impressive. Argos... my particular one is quite good optically but still can't trust the precision of elevation and windage. Midas Tac... haven't actually seen anything I could tell was better optically and has been VERY precise in all my use so far. I'm impressed.
I buy all my own scopes so I TRY to be careful and research but it hasn't gone well on some. Another really impressive one is the Elite 4500 6-24. Amazing scope but the range of adjustment not very big and will only paralax down to 25 yds. A friends Engage looked pretty darned good for the money and another's Falcon 10 - 50 looks nice too.... except a little heavy. Anyway, I'm really liking the Midas Tac.
