Athlon's two new 15-60x56's

What are your thoughts on the ranging of the Bushnell?
Pretty good to be honest. I use a comma wheel for my daughter's. It's her eyes not mine, but she seems to be getting the targets just fine. I removed the Helos from my RTI Prophet Compact and installed the other Bushnell I have since it is lighter. Initially the ranging marks as show on by the factory did not match the distances. I then measured a distance of 20 yards and then adjusted the ocular ring so that the markings on the side focus knob matched the 20 yard distance (image came to focus). After that it all matched for me and it works the same as the Helos, but in a lighter package. The Bushnell has less elevation than the Helos, but for field target is just fine. It still gets me to range targets without needing to add a bigger range wheel. I can range from 10 to 55 yards with no issues. Keep in mind this is for my squirrel rig, so if I am off by 3/4 of an inch it still gets the squirrels. Trying to perform target surgery for HFT or WFTF you need to make a larger focus wheel (as you know).

Thanks, I might give one of these a shot.

I tried one of the new ETR 15x60's. CameraLand had them on sale for $999 for BF. I didn't like the reticle. It was too fine for me and difficult to make out in all but white backgrounds. And I typically PREFER a fine reticle. If you are shooting benchrest, it would probably still be ok. Also, the scope dimmed up quite a bit after 30X. I don't feel like I spent enough time with it to give detailed comments on the IQ.

For me the ETR doesn't start to dim until 42x to 43x. I checked a few minutes ago to test it. At the same time I also compared the IQ against a Vortex Razor LHT 4.5-22x56 and the ETR has the nod by a significant margin.

I used this ETR in our local FT match in September and got 2nd place as far as a match score of 46/48 compared to other divisions, this was in unlimited. The high match score was 48/48 done by a WFTF girl.
I could see the hashes fine except where the targets were in the shade at which time I turned the illume on. It certainly does the trick.

Then in October I used it in a informal silhouette match out to 70Y at friends place when I also got 2nd place.

I'll continue to use the ETR on my FT rifle for 2024 but won't be competing with that gun until springtime so by this time next year I will have made my mind up about using this scope in Unlimited. Right now I haven't seen it being a hindrance if dialing.
Though using Holdovers for Hunter division I don't think I can recommend this scope for that purpose because the reticle is a bit fine for it.

But tomorrow I'll mount it on my Thomas HPX-S for 100Y benchrest with slugs since I got a heavy duty bench earlier in the week. That'll be a perfect testing platform for the ETR in a BR scenario.

The ETR on the HPX-S

I just spent the last 2 hours sighting in at 100Y and practicing the N50 at 100Y. Man the IQ in this scope is awesome! Might need to get another one.

I used the ETR on 50x yesterday and 60x today for N50 at 100Y. It was bright enough at 7:45 this morning for me to see the rings in the target easily.

I keep saying it but this scope is really fantastic and I've found it absolutely perfect for Benchrest!!!!!

Dude… you gotta stop telling me how awesome it is. (I don’t need it… I don’t need it…)

I did pick up a Meopta 5-30, wanted to try out this inexpensive FFP scope first. Hope to get some good weather and put it on my Skout. Also been toying with picking up a Zeiss S3, but trying to go back to checking out some lower end models.

Ha, sorry for the temptation.

I got one of those Meopta's too. Did you get it during the recent sale of $5??.00. I paid $699 for mine a few months ago. It has good glass too but this ETR has got it beat in refinement. Plus I was surprised it didn't have a rev indicator on the housing.

Yeah I saw Tyler had the S3 on sale at a great price for black friday.

Same as you. Didn’t see them below 6!! That would have been even more awesome. I saw the rev indicator issue and don’t expect that to be an issue on this build. Is odd that it is locking and not the windage.

Remember YO?? He's posting under the alias of Scopeye on SH optics forum. It's obvious because of his writing style and other clues. He posted a while back the Meopta was on sale for 500 and something.

I'm assuming that Meopta is coming out with the next gen and is why these are being blown out. I think ours are still the G1.

Definitely. I have made several deals with him, passed along deals to him, and he has to me.

I think the only Meoptas that got that low were the lower mags, like 3-18. I could be wrong. I had the exact same thought on a next gen.

Steve, i got the same BF sale on this scope. Mounted it on my V3, and i really really like it. Especially for N50 @ 50y. The dot is perfect at 60x on the N50 Target, and the first Hashes bracket the 10 ring very nice @ 60x. I've got a Nexus I'd trade anyone for another one of these if anyone is interested.

When I first saw the thin reticle on the Athlon 15-60x56 scopes, I thought it was a deal breaker. I checked out the performance of a Heras in the field and was impressed with the glass. I wanted a higher power scope to try in WFTF field target, so I bought the Ares version, mostly for the lit reticle (to compensate for the thin reticle when viewing dark/shaded targets). Though it was still usable, the focus knob had some binding in the 10yd to 15yd range. On a cheaper scope, I would have just lived with it, but I wanted it to be at least as smooth as my other Athlon scopes. It’s currently back at Athlon to see if they can correct the issue.

😊 I am VERY glad to see that despite the extremely high magnifications of these scopes — Athlon did not take the optical design shortcut they have taken with most of their 4.5-30x / 4.5-27x scopes — by making the min. parallax 25y or 20y. 😟

✅ Instead, they made the minimum parallax 10 yards.
Well done, Athlon. 👏🏼

I'm looking forward to seeing those older edition high magnification scopes getting updated with a 10-yard-parallax in their next generation.

Yes, JS, that 10-yard parallax caught my eye. It was very refreshing. S7
