ATN 4k users: 3-14 or 5-20?

For people that have used or own both, what's your preference on mag range?

I'm leaning towards the 3-14 given the typical closer range use on the air rifle because my hunch is the wider FOV would probably be better for finding closer targets more quickly. I'm guessing probably around 25-40Y will be typical range at night, sometimes maybe as close as 5-10 for rats, and possibly out to 75Y on occasion if necessary.

However, I've also read some people state that the image quality on the 5-20 is better.

Also considering a Sightmark 4K Mini which is obviously much smaller and lighter, but I like the idea of the rangefinder & ballistic calc on the ATN. Looking at a 2D image through the viewfinder at night can be deceptive for estimating range, and getting the laser with the ATN would eliminate the guesswork and avoid a possible miss.

Just looking for some input from owners and users before I pick one up...

I don't own both.

If you're intending to shoot with an airgun at critters during darkness I recommend higher magnification.

I find myself wanting more beyond 25 yards with an airgun with the 14. It kinda depends on your expectations if you ask me. And that seems to come out with precision shots, like with an airgun

I like that Sightmark Wraith in 4k but no experience. Considering how new the 4k is, you may not get much feedback

I had the atn 4K 5-20, the fov is very narrow, my dad has the sightmark 4K, and a buddy got the wraith 4K mini. I honestly like the 4K mini the most, then the regular wraith 4K. I like the lighter scope for better balance. My atn had a lot of odd little issues, I returned it and went thermal(Bering optics super hogster). I am considering a wraith 4K mini for one of my air rifles or an add on like the pard. I would pick the 3-14 over the 5-20 if I went atn, but I would go either of the wraith 4K over them. This is just my personal opinion though.

The narrow FOV on the ATN 5-20 is my main concern for closer range air rifle use.

I haven't ruled out the Wraith 4K mini... the size/weight of the Wraith 4k mini is great and they seem to be solid units with few (if any) software issues. My only gripe is they set it up to use CR123's instead of an 18650 (probably for size reasons) but that's a minor issue overall. ATN does have a very spotty track record when it comes to little glitches, lockups, etc. I hear the newest ATN 4k firmware is much more reliable than when they were released-- but they're still not perfect.

Funny you mentioned Bering, a Super Yoter R is on my list for this next year.

I’ve had both magnifications for over 2 years and still can’t decide which one I prefer. To me the 5-20 is just not as good at shorter distances, although the 3-14 does just fine at 100 yds. I can see how the FOV could become limiting in some situations but it hasn’t been an issue. The ballistics laser is also nice. I don’t use it much beyond a rangefinder but did before and it was spot on for powder. Few topics in here already about setting it up for air.

I've had 2 atn xsight 4k pros for nearly 2 years. Solid. But if you use a sub par micro sd card you will see glitches. I can verify that problem.

Mine came with the micro sd, and i tried 3 others. Mine would randomly freeze, the angle indicator for cant was off 3-6 degrees checked with a plumb string. Then the compass stopped working, I went through all the updates and steps with technical support 3 times. I figured having almost $1000 in a scope I didn’t trust wasn’t worth it. I really wanted it to work but more and more issues were popping up and the wraith 4K wasn’t out yet.

I own both. For my style of hunting I prefer the 3-14. I really wanted the PARD NV008 to work, but the wonky mount requiring shimming every time you move the scope from gun to gun, or the need for an expensive, heavy adjustable rail mount, and the lack of an app necessitating the use of a third party dash cam app, were deal breakers for me. In addition, the view through it is great if the gun is perfectly still, but when moving the scope to find the quarry the picture was "swimmy", like the refresh rate was too slow to keep up. The ATN's in the ATN QR mount +$100 have been rock solid and easy to use.

I'm not challenging your experience or doubting them. I'm only sharing mine. No offense.

When software is involved anything could go wrong and I'm making no claims that my experiences are the only possible ones or that yours isn't true by any means.

I'm just sharing what I have experienced. 👍 I'd buy you a beer or a meal if I was standing next to you and if I came across wrong.

Snagged an ATN 4k 3-14, QD Mount, Xtrac, and ABL1000 for a very good deal last week.

The FOV on the 3-14 is narrow enough, I certainly wouldn't want the 5-20.

It is a rather hefty thing to put on top of your rifle... I can see where the reduced weight of the Wraith Mini 4k would be nice, especially on smaller/lighter rifles.

So far the ATN is working fine. No lockups or other odd behavior. Much clearer at night than I thought it would be, although I'm using a Coyote Reaper XXL light so the more than ample amount of IR light helps quite a bit with night time performance (the XXL is total overkill for air rifle ranges, lol!) . The image isn't all that great in the daytime, but I expected that. Might have to try a cap with a reduced aperture as some have suggested for daytime use to improve the image contrast and quality. It's not an optic I would want to use during the day unless I had no other choice. That's not a huge problem though as the 500mm M3 that the ATN is on is going to be used for night time stuff 90% of the time. I have another 700mm M3 setup for slugs that's the daytime rifle. I might pick up a regular scope on a QD base for the 500mm though so I can let friends use it during the day if we go out ground squirrel blasting.

Still waiting on the ABL1000. They accidentally shipped me a handheld rangefinder instead of the scope mounted ABL1000... oops. That was rather disappointing when I opened the box.

Just waiting on the backordered JSB 13.4s and Hades from Pyramyd so I can have some lighter and lower muzzle energy projectiles to use for inside the barn shots on smaller critters. The JSB 18.1s and 25.4s I have now are very accurate, but far more muzzle energy than needed for rats and the like.
