Hi AGN, I want to get into budget thermal but had a question, whats the biggest difference between the Thor LT and Thor 4 384? Is it just clarity or would I be able to see better with the Thor 4 in thicker brush? Thanks.
I don't have either of them as yet. The only thermal I have is a Leupold LTO tracker and I wish I had the higher quality HD model but it is a bit to spendy for me at this time.
The biggest difference between the Thor LT and the Thor 4 is the sensor. What that equates to is being able to identify what you are looking at at a far greater distance and with far greater clarity at any range in or out of the brush.
If you can afford the Thor 4 grab it and you will be happy.
If you get the LT you will always wish you had the Thor 4.
I have some experience with both and for me with use on an airgun the biggest difference was the rangefinder on the Thor 4.
As far as clarity and identification that is relative to your distance and base magnification, as soon as you start to digitally zoom your quality goes out the window. The trade off in that is your field of view.
My main goal is to shoot rats in the trees/bush. I am only shooting at 20-30 yards top. I could get the best Thor LT at $1000 + change with 8 magnification or the Thor 4 for $1600 + change at 4 magnification. I would only buy refurbished from ATN.
Both are only worth their base magnification. Digital magnifying at that price point is like putting soap in your eyes. I’d check out a set up like Biohazardman is running. Spotting a rat is one thing, positively identifying is another. You never realize the amount of flying squirrels in your area till you play with thermal.
