Air Venturi Avenge X .22 Tuning help needed

I hope nobody else have had the same issue I had with my Avenge-X in .22 cal. Because my Arken SH-4 FFP 4-16x50 scope comes with the larger 34mm tube size and I used with the Arken medium size rings, the oem high capacity 16 shots mag that comes with this new X series rifles doesn’t fit in the breach. So for this reason I am shooting currently this rifle only with the smaller standard size mag along my others aftermarket Carm magazines. Btw this .22 cal avengers becomes a little more accurate when you used them with this mags vs the oem ones just a small tip…😉. But in my other avenge-X in the bigger .25 cal I didn’t had this same issue because I installed this same scope with the high size rings.
Great photos and tips here. Curious how a different magazine could effect the accuracy? Where did you pick up these magazines? Also what type of Chrono do you use and recommend?

magazines can absolutely affect accuracy.

sometimes magazines can damage the pellet upon loading,
ive found its usually due to the pellet not sitting center in the hole of the magazine that the probe slides through.

this timing of the magazine can be remedied with easy diy solutions though.

i will say carm mags are pure deliciousness,
and you can pick different colors, bonus!

Looks like they are overseas.....didn't see a link for Avenge X only original Avenger?

myself i love the fx chrono.
(i have the V1,the newer V2 is even smaller)

but any will work,
i just find the fx to be so easy and quick to get setup,
it doesnt need light to work,
and its very small.

plus you arent slaved to shooting directly over the little sensors on traditional chronographs,
so i can shoot in any direction while using it since its mounted on a side rail on my guns.

All the benefits this aftermarket mags have vs the oem mags are explained in this youtube video done by my friend James Sever. They are made in Croatia, do a search in google and write Carm magazines and his webpage will appear immediately. I am using the FX pocket size chronograph in my opinion this is one of the best of the market.

@opfor congratulations on your purchase and welcome to the forum. I think the avenge x provides a lot of value for the buck and a good entry into PCP shooting. To answer your other question, a sweet spot for diablo pellets is generally regarded to be around 875 FPS for accuracy. Yes you will need the chronograph to verify that. @Ray_PR seems to have his dialed in nicely at that velocity so his data might be a good model to follow.

You can try dialing down your hammer energy in increments and seeing if you're groups change until you get your chronograph. You may notice a reduction in the discharge sound and efficiency / shots per fill. Faster velocities are not always better. I like 875 FPS in my better PCPs that can achieve it. The pellet exits the barrel so quickly that it's less susceptible to movement during the shot cycle than with lower velocities. Of course, follow through for the shot is always recommended in any case.

Very smart to keep a notebook of original settings and write down your adjustments so that you can keep track and not get too far away from a good setup.

A good barrel swabbing will help reduce your flyers. At 50 yd, it doesn't take much wind to produce them or a tick in your posture during the shot cycle.

I would remove the moderator and inspect the crown very carefully for any machining burrs or manufacturing gunk. If possible on this design, push a pellet through the barrel with a dowel and inspect it for any unusual marks other than from good smooth rifling that might tell you if there is any burrs in the breach or transfer port area that you can touch up.

Have fun and enjoy PCP shooting!

Here are a couple of great "tuning" videos that cover concepts and techniques for all PCPs. Not to worry that the guns being discussed in each are no match for what you are shooting, the information still applies:
1)
2)

Hope this helps.
Thank you, yes, already found Steve and studying a ton of his videos, he is a wealth of good info!

Thanks for the photos. Yes, spoke with Darko earlier and he said that his only listing for the Avenger SHOULD work for the Avenge X. I told him I needed to confirm 100% before I purchase but looks like you are doing that now. Is this the version with magnetic cover? Already watched that video, thanks for sending.

Where are you mounting that FX on the Avenge X? The pic rail on the bottom is about 12" away from the end and believe I read where it needs to be about 4" away? If I go with the FX2 do you see a problem with attachment to the X?

Great tips thank you sir for your reply!

Yeah I would go counter clockwise on the hammer spring almost all the way to the end. You may be over 950fps already. In your case with the reg being just slightly lower it would put you around 880fps which is normally perfect for JSB 18's. I had Pyramyd Air do the 10 for 10 when I bought it just to make sure there were no problems before they mailed it. They may have adjusted the hammer spring. I'm not sure because they tested RWS Hobby 11.9 grains in their chronograph test for some reason at 1055fps.
Hey Jason, any chance to speak with you either direct by email or phone? If you don't mind shoot me an email as it looks like you also might be into FX line and something I'm also considering. My email is [email protected]
Thx

The Carm mags I am using in my Avenge-X are the smaller ones that only hold 10 pellets, however I had to move the rifle barrel forward a few thousandths in order to make them fit perfectly into the breach. This is a little try and error procedure until you get it right. If you try to use them without moving the barrel at all in the factory location, they can still be used but they fit a little tighter compared to the oem ones (there is a slight tolerance issue between this aftermarket mags and the oem ones but this issue only happens with the new Avenge-X not with the first gen Avengers). Also the side lever becomes a little more stiffer compared to the oem mags that comes standard with the airgun. But after you do this very simple mod you’re still able to use the high capacity 16 shots oem mags along with the aftermarket Carm mags but not the smaller 10 shots oem ones because they get a little lose inside the breach after this mod is done. I attach my first gen FX pocket size chronograph underneath the air tube of my Avenge-X with rubber bands.

I'm interested in ordering and trying this mag but if there is going to be mods to do in order to make them work I'm not sure I'm ready to get into all that. Was hoping they would be a direct plug and play event.

new avenge-X airguns for a unknown reason unlike the first gen ones after they are completely degassed they retain air in their plenum
A better way to degas you gun completely is to loosen the regulator gauge. This will let all the air out and will reseal easy every time because they seal on a dowty washer.
