Air Venturi Avenge- x classic

Getting close to buying another PCP rifle- mainly looking at the Air Venturi Avenge-X classic with the 400cc bottle- cant decide on .22 , or .25 , mainly will be used for having fun shooting targets, maybe some small game hunting, from you Avenge- X owners what calibers do you have, and what are the pros and cons of .22 , vs. .25 cal. , thanks for any help.

Woody,
Air Venturi Avenger and updated Avenge-X platforms are popular, affordable entry-level PCPs. Non-owner but Classic look appeals to me out of the Avenge-X offerings, too. .22 versus .25 is a long running debate, .22 ammo is cheaper and offers more variety while .25 brings more to the fight for hunting/pesting. I've one .22 and five .25s so no secret my preference. WM

I had the Avenge-X in .22 and think that's the best caliber for that platform.

The .22 gives you a wide range of pellets (energies) to choose from and is more economical (Air and cost) to shoot and quieter.

Generally, .22 caliber is great for general use out to 80ish yards. Beyond 80 yards, the .22 becomes more challenging and the larger calibers have the advantage.

Truthfully, I enjoy the extra challenge of the .22 and prefer it.

Cheers!

I have the classic synthetic with the bottle in .25
Energy on target and 100M range, the 25 might have a bit of an advantage but...

The gun seems to have just enough power for 25 but there are fewer pellet and slug choices than in .22 and the gun will max out on power with 25. Shooting for maximum impact energy with 25 and filling to a full 300 bar, you can still get a reliable 40 shots but may not get much more.

Dropping down into the 30-40 foot pounds range, the shot count goes up a lot - and I would think that in 22, you would have a ton of shots.

The 25 can benefit from a few mods and changes - things that probably aren't as necessary in 22 (enlarge port in the barrel and through the power selector)

The advantage I see in the 22 is that you can use a greater range of pellet and slug weights and still get them up to the speed of your choice but there are good tunes for the 25 - using web info, I was shooting 34 grain pellets 8 rounds through a dime sized hole at 50M on the first day.

I'm happy with my 25 but would probably have bought the 22 if I knew what I know now several thousand rounds into the 25.

The classic synthetic stock is ok but heavy - I'm switching to the tactical but it has an issue with reaching the hammer adjusting screw - The gun is quiet enough that I wouldn't be afraid of the bullpup's - with a moderator on mine I don't really hear the muzzle over the hammer - and then just hear the pellet hit the target - but the moderator (even with a moderated barrel) does help a lot.

Lastly, the 22 rounds are a bit cheaper - and many tins later - it does make a difference -
