Air Venturi Avenge- x classic

Getting close to buying another PCP rifle- mainly looking at the Air Venturi Avenge-X classic with the 400cc bottle- cant decide on .22 , or .25 , mainly will be used for having fun shooting targets, maybe some small game hunting, from you Avenge- X owners what calibers do you have, and what are the pros and cons of .22 , vs. .25 cal. , thanks for any help.

Woody,
Air Venturi Avenger and updated Avenge-X platforms are popular, affordable entry-level PCPs. Non-owner but Classic look appeals to me out of the Avenge-X offerings, too. .22 versus .25 is a long running debate, .22 ammo is cheaper and offers more variety while .25 brings more to the fight for hunting/pesting. I've one .22 and five .25s so no secret my preference. WM

I had the Avenge-X in .22 and think that's the best caliber for that platform.

The .22 gives you a wide range of pellets (energies) to choose from and is more economical (Air and cost) to shoot and quieter.

Generally, .22 caliber is great for general use out to 80ish yards. Beyond 80 yards, the .22 becomes more challenging and the larger calibers have the advantage.

Truthfully, I enjoy the extra challenge of the .22 and prefer it.

Cheers!

I have the classic synthetic with the bottle in .25
Energy on target and 100M range, the 25 might have a bit of an advantage but...

The gun seems to have just enough power for 25 but there are fewer pellet and slug choices than in .22 and the gun will max out on power with 25. Shooting for maximum impact energy with 25 and filling to a full 300 bar, you can still get a reliable 40 shots but may not get much more.

Dropping down into the 30-40 foot pounds range, the shot count goes up a lot - and I would think that in 22, you would have a ton of shots.

The 25 can benefit from a few mods and changes - things that probably aren't as necessary in 22 (enlarge port in the barrel and through the power selector)

The advantage I see in the 22 is that you can use a greater range of pellet and slug weights and still get them up to the speed of your choice but there are good tunes for the 25 - using web info, I was shooting 34 grain pellets 8 rounds through a dime sized hole at 50M on the first day.

I'm happy with my 25 but would probably have bought the 22 if I knew what I know now several thousand rounds into the 25.

The classic synthetic stock is ok but heavy - I'm switching to the tactical but it has an issue with reaching the hammer adjusting screw - The gun is quiet enough that I wouldn't be afraid of the bullpup's - with a moderator on mine I don't really hear the muzzle over the hammer - and then just hear the pellet hit the target - but the moderator (even with a moderated barrel) does help a lot.

Lastly, the 22 rounds are a bit cheaper - and many tins later - it does make a difference -

I have both 22 and 25 barrels for mine. After shooting the 25 I put the 22 barrel up for long-term storage as I'm not going to use it. My particular gun shoots the .25s better and in my opinion, you can't do any better than the Hades pellet. Yes it's more expensive to shoot than the tutu. But it's a different experience I like it much more than the tutu.

Great to hear that, I havent put my .25 cal. barrel on yet- will be doing it later on- really looking forward to trying out .25 cal.- as you say not much difference in ammo, price- I just shoot every now and again anyway- thanks very much for your input.

You will be very happy with the .25 100 yd accuracy . I was anyway :p

Mine will shoot MOA out past 100 if there is mild wind , with the Hades cookn fast . Yesterday in a good wind i shot the squirrel steel drop out reset at 100 . Didnt miss a shot and could crank em off pretty fast too . Have video . Also took a paper target to 130 yards . 100 didnt have much drift , 130 was a good 2 inchs of windage . After doping the wind with 2 shoots , the X kept 2 full mags of Hades into a bit smaller than life size squirrels head . I was impressed ! Yes i have it tuned well , but that's the beauty of this thing it can be tuned well.

The reason I recommended going with the 25 over the 22 even though I have both is that it's a completely different experience shooting the 25 and the 22. To me it's like night and day a hot load with the 25 to me feels like a real weapon where even a hot load in the 22 feels like a pellet gun.

I came from powder burners, and the X is my first good PCP, lol, if you can call a $400 PCP good. I've owned it over a year. I'm a really really good shot but so are millions of people that have the time to send thousands of pallets down range. It's not that hard to get good with a pellet gun at the distances we typically shoot at. Even with that said I would stack my X up against pretty much anything up to 100 yards yeah maybe I might get beat by thousands of an inch. or even a 30 second of an inch. But that would be the worst of it.

I am one of those people that tend to go overboard in hobbies and since buying the X first, actually it was my second I have a 410 TDR that's just stunning, I have not had the desire to go down the rabbit hole. The gun shoots as well as I can , in 25 caliber anyway . i'm not putting $1000 piece of glass on my pellet gun so 150 to 200 yards is about as far as I'll be able to see with my glass. I haven't seen a need to spend three grand on a supposed target gun that appears to break down all the time and have constant issues. I beat the ever loving and poop out of the X, it's battle, scarred and kind of beat up, but I use the crap out of it and it'll still hit exactly where I wanted to.
I think anyone that buys this rifle will love it and no, I don't work for anyone associated with this rifle. I do think Tyler knocked it out of the park with this, however.

I own 4 AVA two .22 and two .25 cal one first gen wood sock .22 and three others second generation Avenge-X one .22 and two .25 cal two wood stock and another synthetic stock all classic with the tube configuration. If you’re looking for the most accurate of all of them go with the .25 cal. I have had tested mostly all the pellets available for them from the lightest 15.89 to the heaviest 33.95 grains. Also if you’re looking for the best moderator for them you can’t go wrong with the Hugget Snipe. Do a search over my user name you would fine a ton of info, good luck. Ps If you decide to buy a .22 cal I strongly suggest to buy the aftermarket maple magazines they are much better than the oem ones..😉

I just bough the avenge x .25 after almost dropping 2 grand on a used daystate. This is my 1st pcp and decided that I should spend that much on a air gun when all I'm going to be doing is plinking and target shooting in the back yard at 60yds and squirrel hunting some. Going down that rabbit hole will have you ready to spend some big money.

You made the correct choice, any of my two Avenge-X .25 cal classics rifles at 60 yards were as accurate as my other high end Kalibrgun cricket tactical 60 .22 cal European made rifle. This budget friendly Avenge -X airguns perform as good as almost any other high dollars airgun available in the market right now. You just need the correct tune and shot with the pellets their barrels like the most 👍😉💪

After trying several different moderators the one that gave me the best results was the Hugget Snipe. Is the first one from left to right shown in the pic. The others in the same order are the 3D printed Buck-Rail, the DonnyFL Sumo and DonnyFL FX. In this thread you should find all the info you’re looking for… 👍😊https://www.airgunnation.com/thread...s-the-best-moderator-for-this-airgun.1301128/

Reading with much interest. AirVemturi may end up being my onramp to PCP
It was may "onramp" and the 25 cal has been a lot of fun. Works out of the box and with a little tuning shoots better than I expected - leave money for a decent scope - the Donny FL 30 cal Yokozuna moderator eliminates a lot of the noise but its not super loud to begin with (they recommend the 30 cal on a 25 cal rifle if the barrel is already moderated like the Avenge-X)

Very happy with it as a first PCP.

I agree 100 % with your opinion, that’s why lately my two .22 cal AVA are collecting dust and only shooting with my others two X .25 cal rifles 👍😉
