Air Venturi Avenge X first impressions (It's awesome)

Hello, I'm a long time reader, but new member. I figured I'd make my first post about my newest air rifle. Apologies if I am starting a redundant thread or breaking etiquette with doing this.

My Avenge X .22 with the traditional wood stock was delivered Friday afternoon. I spent Friday night getting it setup with a UTG recon Bipod, DonnyFL Tanto and Arken SH-4 4-16x50 scope. I noticed that the cheek rest is placed far too low for my eyes, so I made an improvised cheek riser. This stock really could have benefited from a adjustable cheek rest like the bullpup and tactical versions come with.

Filled it to 4200psi, really appreciated the integrated foster fitting instead of a fill probe. My first PCP with this feature, and it's quite convenient.

Spent yesterday zeroing the scope and trying a bunch of different ammo. So far it loves the JSB 25.39gr and 18.13gr. This gun is AWESOME, extremely accurate out of the box. Definitely shipped with a milder tune, was getting about 785fps with the 25.39 JSB over the chrony. Backed out the hammer spring adjustment fully, then turned it clockwise a full turn and was getting about 810fps. Haven't fiddled with the regulator adjustment yet, but will eventually. Would like to be able to get about 860fps with the 25.39 on with the transfer port set to hi, then flip it over to low power for lighter ammo.

The magazines work well. You get a regular 10 round mag, and a high capacity 16 round mag. They're fairly easy to fill, rotate the cover clockwise, drop the first pellet in head first covering the hole on the back, this locks the rotary system in place, then drop the rest in head first while rotating the cover. It's a bit of a tight fit putting the magazines into the rifle for the first few times, but it eventually got easier. They snap in with a satisfying click letting you know it's correctly in place.

The side lever action is smooth as silk, and everything cycles beautifully. This is my second lever action, with the first being the Notos that had issues with the factory mags jamming and failing to cycle right out of the box (which was rectified by upgrading to the absolutely wonderful Maple custom products magazines). Compared to my first experience with the Notos, the Avenge X side lever feels flawless.

This air rifle is very quiet, and with the Tanto installed it's the quietest air rifle I've ever heard. Very back yard friendly. I'm not exaggerating when I say it's whisper quiet.

Still have to try some different slugs, I did shoot a few of the JSB knockout slugs, didn't seem to like those at all but none of my guns have. I have some 22 grain FX Hybrid slugs I want to try next, but unfortunately it's raining today.

Overall I am thoroughly impressed with this rifle, it's got the looks, power, and accuracy I was hoping for, in fact it's even better than I was expecting!

Shooting in my back yard range (42 yds)

It's raining today so figured I'd take a few photos of my air guns. Here's the beautiful new Avenge X with my improvised cheek riser.

Chronograph showing 812FPS with the JSB Jumbo monster 25.39 grain. (Excuse the chicken photobomb 😂)

Namo,
Very nice presentation, memorable first post. No apologies needed, not redundant, nor breaking etiquette. Was looking at AvengeX line-up, this has most eye appeal, even though I'm more of a synthetic stock guy. Glad you feel good about magazines, was hoping Air Venturi would go to all metal like DAR and JTS, those clear plastic cover ones, like my Umarex Gauntlet, don't instill confidence. Two different magazines sizes for different scope heights is a good idea. Don't hesitate to post updates, AvengeX real-life information is always appreciated. WM

Agreed on the metal magazines, that would be a nice touch. At least these plastic ones seem to be available and inexpensive to replace.

I was a bit concerned initially because they do seem similar to the Umarex Notos mags (just larger) which I had a very negative first experience with.

I have also noticed some aftermarket manufacturers are making Avenger magazines, and I've heard great things about CARM's offerings.

Maybe we will see metal magazines down the road as well, but for now at least the factory plastic ones work well enough.

Thanks for the positive words!

Good writeup. I have at least one Carm magazine for my Avenger and it works great. I also have Carm magazines for my P35s in 177 and 22. They work great too, far better than the ones from SPA (who made the Notos, I believe). I like my Avenger but it has plastic supporting the shroud and for the picatinny rail on the stock which I don't like. I think they have addressed this plus made other nice changes in the Avenge X.

Its certainly appearing to be a great rifle. A friend who shoots a redwolf very competitively in field target got one and was totally impressed with it. We have had people shoot field target matches with it and place very well. Its accurate and consistent. At the price point its certainly hard to beat.

I'll likely be adding one. I'm just trying to decide which version to get. I hate how ugly the bottle version is with the fill port on the bottle vs elsewhere on the rifle.

Nice write up and glad to hear the gun is awesome. Love the look of the newer version wood. Looks darker. However that cheek riser looks big time too low by how high of a riser you had to make. Good to know. How do like that Arken ? I’m about ready to get one the weight is making me hesitant though.
It's indeed a weighty scope, but that's the only negative I have found. Otherwise it's an excellent scope at an almost unbelievable price. Glass is beautiful, turrets are excellent, everything feels and looks premium. Id say it's every bit as good as my Argos BTR Gen 2.

The only other 2 things to consider are the 25yd minimum parallax, and the reticle is very thin while zoomed out. Neither of these are an issue for me personally, but may be a drawback for others.

Yes, I am not sure what they were thinking when they designed that bottle. Aesthetics definitely took a back seat on that one. I believe people are already finding ways to use bottles from other brands on the Avenge X.

I'm quite happy with the shot count using the factory tube, so I will likely stick with it.

Its actually pretty simple. They made the rifle modular so you could mix it up. However they decided instead of putting the fill port somewhere on the rifle, they put it on the tube. Therefore they had to do the same with the bottle giving it its ugly look. Thats probably the one downside to the design.

They are butt ugly with that bottle setup

I just got mine from CARM in 25 cal.(just one to test) I like it so much better than OEM high capacity mag that comes with Avenge X. 25 Cal. Don't get me wrong the OEM is functional but the edge goes to CARM. Better loading system. I will be ordering more now that I saw how it performed. Price for the CARM is on par with OEM price. Just remember shipping is longer from Croatia.

Would you be able to tell me what it was shooting out of the box with the 18g or 15g if you tried any? Father got one for a pest problem and he's not fluent in doing any tuning to it other than maybe turning the transfer port knob up or down. What was the 18g shooting on high vs the low setting? He doesn't need to be slinging them 900 fps or anything and would rather keep the noise down in the neighborhood. Got him a donnyFL to help with noise but most shots will be under 50 yards. Unfortunately I won't be in town to help him set it up so was just trying to get some numbers to work with and help him over the phone. Got him a . 22 tactical.
