Air Venturi Avenge X Tuning guide

I recently got the .25 cal version of the Avenge-X Tactical Bottle, added an external plenum and a heavier hammer spring. I had gone through Steve's instructions and did the 850 fps tune 175bar regulator for the JSB 33.95 grain pellets. Now that I've made the mods I am tuning for 850-870 fps with the same pellets. Currently, I have 155bar with hammer at about 3.5 turns in. I've shot several 10 shot strings and am getting my desired fps and 1.5 to 2.7 std-dev. for the 10 shot strings I just shot a completed string from full 300bar down to about 130 bar and it looks like I'll get around 60 shots total. I don't know the accuracy yet, hope to do that tomorrow. I've included chart file for this string. I have no idea if it looks good or bad. I welcome any comments, advice, etc. as I am totally new to PCP tuning other than watching many, many tuning videos. Does 60 shots from a full bottle look reasonable? I would like the graph to be smoother!

SD,

I’d like to see the shot string cutting off at shot 55. That would give a better look at the stats. I’m working on the tune on mine but am getting pretty wide deviations. I need more work on it. I put mine in the Saber Tactical chassis. I drilled a hole through the ST buffer tube attaching point and to tune things up I remove the buffer tube and just have the gun on the bipod and a bag under the grip. Use a long handled hex wrench to hit the HS screw. Set it up pointing at the chrony and start shooting. Can’t really do any accuracy work at the same time but I need to get the ES down Before I get to worked up over accuracy.

SD,

That looks pretty good to me. I’ve been using the JSB 25.4 pellets since they seems to be working well in the videos I’ve watched. I’m seeing 15-20 fps extreme spreads over 15 shots. I’ll get half a dozen with 2-3 fps and several will go high or low by quite a bit. I’m also noticing that I’m not getting the same kinds of velocity that I see from other rifles with comparable settings. I understand that there are going to be possibly big differences from gun to gun. I’d guess that even the pressure gauges could have enough of an error band to account for big differences. I still have a lot of work to do.

I have been reading that you really need to shoot a few hundred for break in purposes before attempting any tuning, but I have not. But I have shot about 1500 during tuning so far. I did super clean the barrel and do a polish. Didn't seem to change anything. Check the barrel set screws, etc. I did have one of the pellet probe o-rings tear and replaced it. Also, I am now just using the single-shot tray. Some of the magazines have caused issues also.

SD,

I just saw the 10 shot cuts on the string. I see 15 fps ES in all of my ten shot strings. Has to be a reg pressure/hammer spring mismatch. At 160 bar reg and 4 turns in on the hammer spring, my average fps with the 25.4’s is around 880 fps with the big spreads.

Thanks for pix! I’ll have to get the FX pocket radar. I’m using a 30 year old F1 Shooting Chrony that seems to be getting finicky in its old age.
