Avenger .22 accuracy issues

Hi,

I am relatively new to PCP and Avenger. I degas my rifle, set the regulator around 900 psi and fill it to 4000 psi. Then I adjusted up to around 1400 PSI.
Before that my rifle was very accurate at 40 and 60 meters but after this adjustment I am having big issues with accuracy. I am trying to figure out what might be the problem.
So my questions are :

1. If the regulator is jammed it affects the accuracy, the power or both?
Because I dont see any problem with the power, shooting xman 14.3 at around 850 FPS, the problem is the accuracy, so I dont know if it may be the scope (dont think so as I used it in another rifle and it works ok) or the rifle.
2. Is it normal (I didnt check it before the issue) that when the fill pressure is below the reg pressure, reg pressure drops and match the fill pressure? or this means there is a problem?

Thanks in advance

Did the velocity come down when you reduced the regulator pressure? If so then I think the regulator is probably working OK. The main issue I've seen with regulators in my 4 regulated guns is occasionally their velocity spread has been a bit high. Some of that was traceable to having too much or two little hammer spring force for the regulator setting. If you have not lowered your hammer spring setting to match your new regulator setting I would start there. Some guns seem to really object when they are not reasonably matched. I would reduce the hammer spring tension intially a turn at a time and when you get low enough the velocity falls, go back up 1/4 turn at a time to find where velocity is greatest with the least HS. I then try a little more and a little less HS to see if one setting is better for accuracy. My 25 Avenger liked 1/4 turn more than the least HS significantly better. If this fine tuning does not affect accuracy, then I would leave it a little under the minimum setting to get the most accuracy. Reportedly that will improve efficiency.

If that does not restore accuracy then I would turn the reg up a little. I have not found velocity to make much difference in my guns accuracy but yours might really not like certain velocity ranges.

Yes, it is perfectly normal for the regulator pressure gauge to fall with the tank pressure whenever the tank pressure is below the regulator setting. It has to. If there is a mismatch it means at least one of the gauges isn't reading the right pressure.

Hi,

Thanks a lot for your great explanation. I didn’t thought that on the first reply I would find all I need to do.

Thanks a lot. I will do it.
