Average Jim and the Brocock Commander Issue

Maybe an answer to most of the problems. Same gun, same pellet, same scope, same target, same "SHOOTER", same bench rest , at 50 yds, etc.,,,only difference is I took the high priced moderator off and shot it with the factory muszzle break. And I was not taking competition form shots and was using the magazine. The picture explains it all I think. Took the moderator off and examined it with a flashlight and could see no clipping. But...

Now its time to communicate with the vendor who highly praised and provided the moderator..

I had a similar problem. Never figured it out. My moderator did work well with other guns but for some reason it didn't work with the one I bought it for. My guess is that the air whirling about inside somehow had some turbulence that slightly moved the pellet before leaving the moderator. I was told to try drilling a couple small holes in the rear to try to release some pressure but I never tried. Goodluck.

SO Glad to HEAR!

Great for you and the Brocock!

I shoot a lot of powder guns, and I know they are very different, but I play with different muzzle brakes, compensators, and cans. They very seriously affect the accuracy and impact of almost every rifle that I have shot, Some better, some worse, some just different impact spots. Mainly harmonics and gas release. I do have one particular rifle that has same impact with can as without. That's a very rare situation.

I have a number of mods that I know are square. Installing any and then checking will tell me if an alignment issue is occurring elsewhere. Also gives me the option to play with different sizes, bores, weights, baffles, ect. It's rare that a gun doesn't like any. But my 700mm fx crown does shoot slightly better with no moderator. Not any one I own. Even the humas in single config.

There are a couple of us in our shooting group that have a bag of moderators. We bounce through the inventory until we find the magic one for accuracy, and sometimes, not having one is the best. From PRods to .30 cal Uragans, not all moderators perform the same, & some can make a big difference, good or bad.

Fun part of the sport, once you have a few, you can screw them on simply and measure results quickly.

Understand try a different one. I have a few that I can interchange and see if that makes a diffrence. Called the vendor and they said they would send me the guts of a .30 and to try that. Also suggested I put an o-ring over the moderator threads as that sometimes tighten the threads better. It was just a sometimes userful solution he had discovered. Well I knowm now, it shoots as good as I'll ever be able to shoot it without the moderator and just the stock muzzle break. where I shoot a moderator is for me and it's not that loud behind the gun.

Raden1942, drill the holes in the rear of the moderator parallel to barrel center line or at rear perpendicular to the barrel center line. Thanks

Did get the .30 guts for the moderator.. Haven't installed it yet. This moderator already has small holes drilled allong it's sides. Not big holes. Probalby would have trouble putting a straight pin in them but there are quite a few. Ican say abosolutely hole in hole at 25. At 50 not as good. Strange to me but so far I get the best groups with the Hades rather than the diablolo exact. Haven''t ried the redesigned yet.
