As I sit here and read about the match results in CA and wait for a possible posting regarding the AZ Founders cup match I decided to take it upon myself to post a little snip it regarding the AZ Founders Cup match this weekend at Mormon Lake. I really missed everyone that would normally come but instead elected to go to Cally for the state match. Congrats Bill C for mighty fine shooting and Lauren for hanging tough. I was having a discussion with a fellow shooter that was saying Piston shooters didn’t have a chance at being a State Champion and Cameron pretty much blew that philosophy out of the water.
Sorry you couldn’t make it Cole, we always enjoy your company and fine shooting. Had you been there we would have needed to clear the course to win.
Anyway...I felt like our course was set up just a tad more difficult than in the past few months. Steve might have a Troyer, I’m not sure. That being said it seemed like everyone stepped up their game and shot better. Even though we were not able to camp this time we showed up with plenty of time to find our zeros and proceeded to a challenging course. I can’t tell you all the specific ranges but there were plenty out past 45 and the wind was coming and going constantly where you really had to pay attention. It seemed the offhand lane was the make or break lane with 1” kill zone at 12 and 15 yards, it didn’t look that hard but apparently was hard enough. I missed 3 of 4 and that was all I missed for the match. Steve M somehow missed 3 out of the 4 on a mental error and Bobby C didn’t miss any but missed 2 other unusual shots. Ben S only had 2 misses getting 3 out of 4 on the off hands until his last lane where wind on 50 plus yards got him on 2 shots giving him a 36. There ended up being a 3 way tie for 3rd place with Ben, Van and Mike S with a 36 total. Van ended up taking the win in a shoot off and the Wolf Pack Team pulled off a solid win. I want to say good job to Bobby for shooting so well and look forward to next weekend for the Extreme Field Target match that is such a blast to shoot in. If you haven’t tried it you should. Get out you HP FT rifle and come on down. You won’t regret it.
