Aztec Emerald 3-18x vs 5.5-25x

They are the same price, but Is there any real difference between the two aside from the variable power, an ounce in weight, an inch in length and a bit larger OD of the 3-18x eye piece? Are they equal in brightness, clarity, crispness, etc., etc, from 5.5 to 18x?

I have both and really like them both . Yes aside from the differences you already mentioned they are the same . I've only had the 3-18 for a week but so far it seems just as good as the 5.5 .

How is the 5.5 for focus ranging? I have the idea to someday try it for FT competition.

It is pretty nicely snaps in and out of focus, but distance between 50 and 55 yards is not that big. In addition it will range short when it gets colder.

How short did it range when cold, and how much of a temp difference did it take?

I tried the 5.5-25x50 but had to return it. The turrets didn't stay locked down, they would pop right back up. Also, the scope was pretty milky past 20X.

It was about 5 yards shorter when temperature was 30 degree lower. 40 vs 70. So you need some sort of system to adjust pointer for temperature reading.

I agree on milkiness past 20x. I believe this scope is best suited for Hunter division, it still ranges pretty well at 16x and reticle has many hold points and it is easy to bracket with it.

The Sightron that I had was also pretty sensitive to temperatures. I haven't noticed this as much with Hawke Airmax Scopes or UTG scopes.

There is a FFP scope coming out from Aztec soon. I heard about it and they confirmed it to me

I had both and for my eyes.. the 3x18 was way better.. if I have to purchase again I would only buy the 3x18
