aztec emerald 5.5-25 x 50 FFP scope vs falcon 3-18i x 50 FFP scope

yeah, i gonna get in so hot water here possibly with this. just saw donnie at baker airguns video on youtube talking up the aztec emerald FFP with illuminated reticle. now i love donnie's videos - good guy. and i am NOT saying aztec makes a bad scope , i have looked through one and glass is real nice. BUT!!

aztec emerald 5.5-25 x 50 FFP with lit reticle - over 500 bucks

falcon 3-18i x 50 FFP with lit reticle - UNDER 400 bucks

now as i see it , these scopes are at least equal in quality. joe rhea did a review on BOTH of these. he would be a more informed source than me. i have no stake in either company , i just want other airgunners to know stuff is out there not as aggressively advertised. the only difference i saw between these 2 scopes was the reticle. the aztec has a christmas tree style while the falcon has a more standard cross type like an SWFA. maybe the christmas tree reticle is essential to some , also greater magnification , but to me it's NOT worth the extra 150 bucks.

WINNER - FALCON 3-18i x 50

I never tried either ,but there is alot of choices in scopes and many new compaines which sell them . Things are evolving in the Scope industry all the time and many new Reticles are available ,

I my self like FFP scopes and I tend to lean twards all Mil/Mil based scopes , I was trained in MOA decades ago but I switched to Mil /mil about 10 years ago as it ismuch easier for me , I can shoot both well ,

The 1 thing with lower priced scopes I try to avoid is getting too high a power glass for the quality , I rather have good Glass at 10 power then , poor glass at 25 power , , I find many sopes just magnifiy imperfections and distortions , IMO

ggood luck with your scopes hey get both lol when I am on the fence of which one I work harder and buy both lol

After looking thru , and reviewing both . The Falcon has better glass NO doubt . I wouldn't buy a scope with lesser glass for 150 bucks more for a particular reticle unless you know ahead of time it's what you are giving up .

The Aztec for it's price and features is a fair buy . The Falcon is a GREAT BUY and is useful thru it's entire power range .

Yes, but is it any easier to distinguish 50 yards from 55 yards with the Falcon?

skip-in-wv , ???? i have no idea how to answer that question , i just set parallax at printed distance. all i know is the aztec is good , but the falcon is BETTER and $ 150 cheaper. for technical answers ask joe , the guy wearing the eye patch 3 spots above you in this post. he also did a youtube vid on both.

Ranger, you only looked through the Aztec, so that’s your basis for calling the Falcon BETTER? Have you used both in the field? I’ve been using the Aztec for the last five months, easy to use, I’ve shot critters using the full magnification range, at ranges from 15 to 104 yards. The Christmas tree helps make repeatable hits in the wind. Donnie at Baker Airguns is correct in calling it a “delicious” reticle. The range finding is spot on and precise... it’s an awesome scope, that’s the reason your comparing to the Falcon. As for Joe, he did rate both scopes “bad ass”... whatever that means.

L.leon as i stated , the glass was equal if not better in the falcon. the aztec has a christmas tree reticle as well as higher magnification. the falcon has a cross style reticle both have illuminated reticle. even joe thinks the falcon glass is better, see post above. the aztec is $540 and the falcon is $380 so to me it's an easy decision. but i do not like christmas tree reticle. you want to spend extra $150 for the reticle-cool , go for it. that's what makes the forum great , differing opinions . anyways , happy shooting ! 👍

Bought the Falcon S30 5-30x56 FFP for my new Daystate Red Wolf .177 HP.

Very happy with the scope so far - nice clear glass, and I really like the reticle.

Nice with both reticle and turrets being in MIL.

Sometimes it's hard to say X is better than Y, because some people will value some features more than others. I was talking with Joe the other day about this. For example, X might have better glass than Y, will that alone make it better overall? Maybe yes, but maybe not for some people.

I think what's important is to get feedback from you guys, the actual owners, because that's the other point, sometimes we get the information from not so reliable sources, and I think that's the reason must of us always call.. Joeeee is that true!? A lot of BS out there.

Anyway, I've found this post really interesting!

Keep sharing knowledge!
