Back on irons

My favorite open sight: the big, all-metal, finely-adjusting one on an old Diana 27, complete with rotating plate having your choice of four notch shapes...

...combined with a classic German beaded post in the front. Even an old blind guy like me can hit with these! (Well...almost...some of the time, anyway.)

It's amazing that Diana put sights this good on a junior rifle like the 27. It's one of the very few rifles I keep the OEM sights on.
Would be cool if shops could have rifles set up with different kinds of sights for comparison. Some audio shops used to have listening rooms, in which a potential buyer could select different speaker and receiver mixes, simply by pushing a button or switch.

I have a rather new FWB Sport, and the rear/blade sight is the best I have seen on any airgun.
Looking at the new sport the rear looks good and 4 way notch plate but it did not look like the front globe used interchangeable post inserts ( or not showing that off or in the details). Just a set post? Does yours have inserts for different posts?

No the factory front globe on the FWB Sport does not accomodate interchangable inserts, The globe is clamped to a couple of grooves and I suspect it could be swapped for a globe sight that takes the interchangeable inserts. I have not compared, but that is what I did on my FWB 124d.

Just picked up an HW77 with open sights , it has been fun !! only time i every used this type is on my red rider @ 9 years old
only 69 years ago . Not to late i guess .
.
One of these days im going to grow up and have a 77.. funny it always seems to elude me. I guess i want it too bad and it's a punishment. ( Or i just cheapo out to just go buy one🤤)

All I use now is mail-order pellets. They don’t cost that much for ordinary kinds (all lead, either WC or dome).

User error will always be a factor, but my target results are gradually improving. If this is what happened since late March, I look forward to seeing results after another 3-4 months of practice. Eyesight will limit accuracy at increased distances, but it should still improve at up to 50 ft, I think.

If they do, I’ll continue practicing beyond that distance. There is no way I could see a small target well at your 30 and 50 yds distances, though! You could be the only entrant in the unscoped long distance contest!

Use a bigger bulls ... The cenyer is still the center no matter what size the circle is. Use this hold of a 1" bulls you hit 1/2 " high of 10 foot bulls your shot os set for 5' high and each makes center , right?

I'm going to be 78 in about 3 more months and can still shoot any kind of sights rather well. I had been nearsighted since about age 13, and wore glasses all the time, finally progessing to bifocals/progressive lenses. I could see the sights especially the rear sight very well, peeps excellent, scopes, well adjusted to my eyes. Two years ago I had cataract surgery, I was on the borderline for needing it but went ahead and now my distant vision is perfect, more like farsighted, and I need glasses for reading and close up work, so I told the ophthalmologist jus give me some more progressives, as I had been wearing glasses constantly, I still reach for them first time when I wake up. I can still shoot any type iron sight well along with the scopes.

I use progressive lenses. But only as needed when needed . Like doing these forums , definitely need them or its a blurr or somthing about text /print in arms length . I can read somthing 10 foot away better than at hand. Some pics i post from the bench top you sometime see a part of my glasses like the arm poking in the frame ..lol.

That's basically me, top part of lenses are plain glass. For driving, or a lot of activities out in bright sun, just generic sunglasses. Mowing or weed eating, I have a couple of pair of goggles, one clear, one shaded, again plain glass(plastic) lenses.
