Back Yard Nutria Rat Hunting Adventures

Hey man you need to save those tails at $6.00 each, that will pay for your pellets and then some. Don't know where you are located, but I am probably not too far away in BR GO TIGERS!!

I've considered it. Unfortunately, many times the rats are only retrievable via kayak. It's just not worth all the trouble of getting the kayak down, putting it in the water, paddling over there, searching, recovering, kayak back, bring kayak back up to house, etc. Plus, I think that would really freak out the neighbors at midnight. Additionally, my wife probably won't let me put any more animals or parts in the freezer.

Do you belong to Bayou Airgun Club?

years ago I bought fur, we purchased the fur skinned or unskilled, dont buy unskinned nutria, they are no fun to skin! But I can see a lit of fun to shoot!

Yes Sir, lot of fun to shoot. I could get $6 per tail and I hear there is a local buyer for the meat (used for dog treats), though I'm not sure what he pays. If I had a buyer for the fur also it may make retrieving these things actually worth the trouble. I rarely bother retrieving them now as it would involve a kayak and/or some trespassing in some cases. Just not worth all the hassle. Not to mention, I'm usually in my pajamas at this point in the evening.

Chris I love it. I was raised in South Louisiana swamps but no PCP's in my day or Nutria would be extinct. I have cleared beaver on farms up here in NC and noticed beaver have same habits in water as the swamp rats. Keep up the good work i enjoyed the shooting.

Monkyshine, glad you enjoy Sir. I only wish I had more to share. It has been a very slow year. Not sure if I'm keeping the population down or if they are just avoiding my area of the lake. I'm hoping activity will pick up when it cools off. Do you find that the heat keeps the beavers less active?

He is shaking those pellets off. You accomplished the job though. Tuff like coon never easy to always get him on the noggin. I liked the video.

Yeah, I feel like my gun isn't as powerful as it used to be, but I know that isn't the case because it still hits the mark at 50+ yards. I prefer to take headshots when I can, for ethical reasons (of course), plus it is a lot more fun to watch them drop. But many times they are moving around too much and I just have to go for center mass.

Anyway, glad you liked it. I have had a lot more activity with the cooler weather, so hopefully more to come!

I am presently in Arizona from NC cleaning 5 dairies of piegons and collards. 300 down in 3 hrs.

I would love to get in on that kind of action. Going after these rats and a few other excursions over the last year I used up a little over (1) 300 round tin of pellets. You shot that much in 3 hours!

Oh yeah, and my arms would probably fall off if I shot that much, I have a hand pump, no compressor 😒.
