Backyard battle with squirrels

you're shooting a .25 Impact in your backyard? Glad i'm not your neighbor

Well my neighbor with the squirrel problem sure doesn’t seem to mind at all. Also what‘s the difference between an impact 25 vs whatever 177 in someone’s eye or window? Even a sling shot can be dangerous so responsible discharge of any projectile is obviously required regardless of size, speed and location! It’s part of hunter education everyone supposedly have to take.

Derail over and back to hunting them invasive pests, maybe the native western grey squirrels would come back to my trees one day. Western grey squirrels rarely cause damage to homes and raid bird eggs like the fox squirrels.

In fact, at similar power levels you will get less penetration from a .25.

On the other hand, I made the mistake of using my .30 Impact to eradicate a nighttime pest. I forgot how loud it was even with a DonnyFL and people had their windows open. A couple lights turned on.

I’m new to PCP and at first I was regretting getting the .25. Now I learned more and experimented a bunch I think the decision was better than I thought. Like you mentioned at similar power the larger projectile will have less penetration/pass through which is what I’m looking for. Currently my impact is really quiet, I’m focusing on making the target quieter since the sound of the pellet hitting the target is louder than the gun itself. I’m also going to turn down the regulator pressure a little to drop speed to around 680-700 from my current 730 FPS. Should not make much difference in sound of the gun but will help reduce power to around 26-28 FPE and potential damage if I get a flyer. 28 FPE is pretty normal even for .22 caliber factory setting.

Your 30 cal is like hitting them with a base ball! Now I’m wondering if I should of gotten the dirty thirty instead! LOL

edit: getting speed/power down is a little harder than I thought. Dropped hammer preload way down and Reg pressure to 60 bars and finally stabilized at 660fps average so 25fpe which should still be more than enough for squirrel given how big the pellet is. As expected the sound of the gun did not change at all to my ear, mostly mechanical clank of the hammer.
