FX Bad valve? Maybe?

My gladiator mk2 used to get 120 shots per fill at an avg of 890fps I was having problems with it leaking when filling past 2500 psi or so. I took it apart to change a seal in the front air tube to fix the leak. Now a new problem arose. When you remove both air cylinders from the main block because of the regulator, it should hold air which needs to be released before you can take the gun apart any further. When you take the cylinders off all the air would leak right out of the block which led me to believe it was a bad regulator. I replaced the stock regulator with an aftermarket hum regulator now instead of the 120+ shots that I used to get I get around 40 in a shot string that looks very similar to an unregulated gun. The speed plateau and then slowly drops off as the pressure drops off and instead of getting the 120+ shots from 3000 down to 1500 I get 40 so I’m losing air somewhere starting to think that it might be the main valve. Anyone have any experience or advice for me. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

@Jedediah When changing a leaky o-ring I have come to the conclusion that it’s easier to change them all at once to cutdown on the chances of having to break the gun down in the near future when a similar aged o-ring that was not changed goes bad.

Let’s get some more info on your setup to try to get you some decent help. What was the stock reg set at? What’s the Huma reg set at? What’s the max fill pressure? Which caliber is the gun? Are you shooting the same ammo on the new reg that you shot and provided velocity data for when you had the old reg installed?

Wouldn't be surprised if the valve is leaking but you also have a regulator issue now as well. I recently had to fix the valve in my Ranchero which is very similar to the gladiator I believe. I had to lap the valve with the seat together to make a new sealing surface since the delrin seal was no longer doing it's job it now seals metal to metal instead.

22 cal, stock reg was set at 135, new reg is set to 135 shooting jsb 18. Previous shot data was average 890 fps with jsb 18 for about 120 shots per fill. Currently shooting jsb 18 around 800 and consistently dropping in speed until it hits 1500 psi in about 40 shots.

Anyone local to new England I could send it out to I’m getting pretty frustrated with it. I’m about to put it on the street for free.
@Jedediah Maybe reach out to www.newenglandairguns.com and see if their techs can service your rifle. I've Neve had service work done by them but have purchased from them. If you decided to get rid of it, why not trade it in to a shop that sells used airguns or list it here in the "classifieds" forum? At least get some of you money back.

Looking at the velocity change between the two regs with the same setting, did you adjust the hammer spring at all once you install the new reg? I can't see that accounting for such a loss in shout count, but I'm curious considering a loss of almost 100 fps. Consistently dropping in speed after installing a new reg. Maybe it could be your valve stem that's the problem. I'm guessing here and waiting to see what more experienced members have to say.

It was having all the problems before the new reg. When I took it apart and the block drained I figured it was the reg because it should have held pressure that needed to be released before you can work on it so I started there.

@Jedediah Were you able to pinpoint and resolve your issue? Did you send your rifle in to be serviced?
I’m bringing it to northeast airguns today to have them take a look at it and see if they can sort it out for me. I took it all apart got the valve out checked all seals couldn’t see/find anything obvious. It was resealed a couple years ago. I put it back together charged it up for testing and now my trigger is dead and flopping back and forth. At this point I’m real frustrated with it. Every time I try to fix something, I end up creating another issue. I’m not experienced enough to solve this one. If it can’t be sorted out for a reasonable price there might be a wildcat or maverick in my near future. Or if it’s fixed there might just be another gun coming to live with me anyways lol.

@Jedediah I didn't know that North East Airguns serviced airguns. They have had great customer service in my experience. Please keep us posted on the issue and resolution to your issues with your Gladiator mkII.
I just dropped it off with them today. They have a tech that comes in when they need him. They have a great little shop. I arrived to find the shop was closed unannounced online ( it’s an hour and a half drive for me I call the number on the door and one of the owners left his regular job to come meet me and take my gun and info and answered a pile of questions I had. Seems like they have a great operation and great customer service. I’ll post an update when I hear back from them
