BAGA Field Target Match June 20, 2015 So we had an excellent day for a field target match at BAGA yesterday. It was supposed to be 85 and humid but it turned out to be 78 and mild with a cool breeze so that was nice compared to what was predicted. We had 16 shooters for this match including a brand new junior shooter and a fine gentleman that traveled from Louisiana to hang with the BAGA crew. Junior shooter, Colin Guidici was with his grandpa, Jim Guidici and was shooting Jim’s CZ S200 in .177. And joining us from Louisiana was Bill Liebke(known on the Yellow as “BillyDick”). Bill brought his brother Bob with him today but Bob did not shoot, he was spectating. Bill said Bob had to come out and see what he was talking about, cuz he just could not imagine a bunch of old men out in the woods playing with pellet guns.
I think Bob has a fine understanding of what the awesome sport of Field Target has to offer everyone interested in participating now. We had a ton of laughs and enjoyed the day in the woods with great people. Special thanks to Bill and Bob for coming out and seeing what BAGA is all about.
Alex did not change the course up much from last time so it came out to around 38 troyer. The wind played havoc on some people on lane 1 because that lane buts up to the sight in range and is completely open to the wind. That lane messed with people big time because they did not have to play toooooo much wind when in the woods. The trees provided a little buffer but not completely so some tricky winds snuck into the course farther down range and caused some to miss the longer shots at 55 yards today.
I was shooting with Greg today and on my first shot at 55 yards I held at 3 o’clock on the edge of the kz and my pellet impacted 2 mils outside the left of the kz right at 9 o’clock. I could not believe I got a 5 mil wind at 55 yards like that!!!! So the next shot I was trying to wait on the wind to die a little bit but it didn’t so I held 2 full mils outside the kz on the right edge at 3 o’clock and let the shot go….right in the center of the kz for a point! Dang! That one also moved 5 mils right to left!!!! Turned out to be a ton of fun but frustrating if you did not watch the wind.
So the match was 48 shots over 12 lanes, 2 targets per lane, 2 shots per target shot near to far. We had 1 lane that was 1 target standing and the other was kneeling. Overall troyer was right at 38, so it was not easy by any measure.
