BAGA Monster Match report from October 15 in Bristol, Wisconsin

BAGA Monster Match October 15, 2016

Hello Everyone,
We hosted the final match of the year outdoors in Bristol, Wisconsin at the BAGA club. The day started off cool, in the mid 40’s but warmed up into the mid 50’s by match time. We had a decent amount of wind to deal with(10-15mph) on this day as well, something that is not typically a factor at every match at BAGA so that was a welcomed challenge added to this Monster Match course! Being that it was a Monster Match, we set up 104 shots in a single day. The course was VERY difficult to meet the Monster Match standards of years gone by as is BAGA tradition for the Monster Match. We had some REALLLLLY small kz’s out way beyond what you would see in an AAFTA match. But then again, this was not an AAFTA match, it was a MONSTER MATCH!

My neighbor, Ben Easley, is a 16 yr old 10 meter JROTC 3 position shooter and we have been having fun in my basement shooting his 10 meter rigs for practice. This time, Ben was able to join me for the FT match and I picked him up on my way to the range. This was Ben’s first time shooting field target and I let him squad with me and shoot my Steyr LG 110 BV. I kinda ruined him for the sport now though!!!! He went home and started researching rigs for WFTF!!! Hook, Line, and Sinker my friend!!!! And a new FT shooter was born!!! Ben ended up with 54/104 for his VERY first match ever, shooting in WFTF with my rig that he did not have more than 30 shots down the barrel before hitting the course. Great job!!!

In true fashion, Vlad was able to post a 96/104 for the day to bring home the overall high score, shooting in the Open division. Vlad put a cap on a great year for him including his 4th place finish at the AAFTA Nat’s a few weeks prior.

Phil Eakley stayed true to form topping the Hunter scores with 86/104. For this match, Phil decided to shoot his 12 fpe RAW instead of his 20 fpe RAW. He wanted to see what the difference between 12 fpe and 20 fpe was in the wind, in a match. His prognosis after the match was as follows…..”you WFTF guys are crazy!!!! I am going back to my 20 fpe rig and not looking back, this is crazy!!! I think I am going to buy a polygon barrel and shoot the 13 gr pellets now!!!” Needless to say, Phil was less than impressed with shooting 12 fpe, but gained a new found respect for the competitors doing so with sub 12 fpe rigs in the wind.

Because there were 3 competitors in WFTF I did hand out awards in WFTF as well. Take a look at the score board pic to see a list of all the scores for the day.

Ron and Bill handled the food after the match and cooked up a nice batch of chili that everyone enjoyed while sharing stories from the day’s activities. It was a great day out in the woods at BAGA and I am sad to say, the last match of the season for me.

We will head indoors to our 30 yard range for the winter starting in November and begin our IFP league in December/January. Keep an eye open for a notice from me regarding the indoor winter league we host. If you want more info, just reach out to me and I will provide you with the needed info.

Thanks everyone for a GREAT 2016! See you all on the lanes in the spring of 2017!!!!!!
