Does anyone know if the grips from a real Makarov will fit the Baikal MP-654K co2 Mak?
I’ll give it a go. The grips are available on eBay for not too much.I believe they will, I think you need to check the generation of Mak, I am not sure if some of the double-stack magazines have a wider frame.
Lots of interesting reading here:
Baikal MP-654K
The Baikal MP-654K is a replica air pistol which is made in the same manufacturing plant as the original Makarov pistol. There is some argument for saying that this isn’t really a replica at…worap.wordpress.com

Hope these links work for you on that side of the pond.
Does it have a rifled barrel? If so it might be best to avoid steel BBs and go with lead, plastic, or the copper coated Smart ShotsI have only just got my first Mak, the cap seal leaked and the replacement arrived today, so looking forward to shooting it for the first time!
Try loading a pellet into the breach and check the accuracy. If it compares with your other pellet shooters, then the rifling is working and you might want to avoid steel shotIt is a rifled barrel, but the lands looks quite soft rather than sharply cut grooves.
If it’s like mine, you’ll see a marked differenceTry loading a pellet into the breach and check the accuracy. If it compares with your other pellet shooters, then the rifling is working and you might want to avoid steel shot
Same here. No steel. I use pellets exclusively in mine.I am not a great fan of steel bb's, so won't be using them in my Mak.
I found it …. a weaker slide spring. Just took a quick visit to the right hardware store. Now it’s much easier to pull back but not so easy that the slide lock can pull itself out of engagement. Greasing the innards and slapping it all back togetherSame here. No steel. I use pellets exclusively in mine.
Also, I’m looking for a weaker slide spring. This one seems to be as stiff as the real recoil spring and it gets tiring pulling the thing back all the time.
I get around 400fps for the first few shots then it starts dropping off. Not a particular strong or accurate shooter with BBs. Much better with pellets, but that means pulling back that stiff slide spring for every shot . Hence I swapped that spring for a much lighter one. Finally got to shoot mine yesterday after the new seal kit arrived; swapped out the leaking cap seal and the seal between the magazine and valve bodies as that looked tired.
Not particularly impressive and rather quiet, but it was at freezing point in my shed, so the co2 cannot have been very happy! Anyway, I now have a functioning Makarov, so I am very happy about that! Only tried it with Smart Shot, 8 in the mag to start, then went for 12 - no jams, hope to get to the heated indoor range on Sunday and try it out properly.
Well done. Now lock the slide back and feed a roundhead .177 pellet into the breech (I need tweezers for this). Empty mag except for the co2. And test the accuracy againGot to the range this morning, Smart Shot were poor for accuracy, probably because they are too small to engage with the rifling. The Gamo lead bb's were much better and I didn't have any jams, though I did restrict the magazine to ten rounds.
Tried some single arm hold shots at six yards and was surprised what accuracy I was able to achieve.

So I pushed it out to ten metres and achieved something I never have before...
Completely missed the black...

Great fun though, and probably the closest thing to a PB pistol I will be able to own.
I tried that in my shed the other day at short range, it was quite a faff and I was fearful of losing my finger end if the latch slipped.Well done. Yes, that's a powerful spring. I replaced it with a much lighter one for the reason you mentioned.I tried that in my shed the other day at short range, it was quite a faff and I was fearful of losing my finger end if the latch slipped.
Using tweezers is definitely a smart move, I will give it a go when I am next at the range with it.
Not had chance yet, I will give it a go next time I go to the range.Hey Mod,
Have you had a chance to run a few pellets through that Mak?
I'm curious to hear if your findings are as favourable as mine.
