Balance of power

This has much room for difference of opinions. I have always stood for the concept of power properly balanced in a gun for best performance. That frequently goes against the “most power possible “ mantra. I recently acquired an MK2 wildcat. 25 cal. It was pushing 34 g jsb at 940-950 FPS for about 67 FPE for 23 shots on a fill. My friend had it for these results, I said tune that sh$& down! There was no way that gun was not completely maxed out. And sure enough, it was leaking air at both tube seals , the reg , set at 160 , was also leaking. I don’t believe these guns were designed for this type of abuse. I had it repaired and retuned for 880 FPS with jsb 34g for 35-40 shots per fill . 58 FPE will suffice in my book.

Oh yeah and a pp to boot will keep your reg pressure down and shot count up I have a mk2 .22 shoots 910ish fps and 40 shots per 225bar fill very accurately. I think the regs set at 125 bar+/- ) Rock steady consistency too!

Have you tested anything other than the 34 grains? I also have a mk2 that I just acquired, and I’ve only shot one mag of 25grain hades. its a tack driver no doubt, but I was hoping to shoot hybrids Accurately which I believe they need low 900fps to achieve. I feel as though this could be achieved with the tune you have 34 grains at 880 must not be far off 900 for a 26 grain right?

Rangur1’s Wildcat is sweet running now at the speeds of in the 880’s and for 36 shots, using the 34 grain JSB’s heavy’s. 120 BAR set with the Ernest Rowe plenum.

Such a fine looking gun with its custom dipped stock. It’s too bad this gun led an early life of abuse by over pressurization. Signs of that are simply pulling out the reg for a change of reg pressure, re install, and the entire air tube leaked at every point an o ring was to be found upon refill.

Upon close inspection of the old o rings pulled out, not only did they appear flattened, but tilted to one side, the outwards side. The Huma regulator that came with it was also compromised, as it would not seal with new o rings on the outside along with a new reseal kit. I would t doubt if I had the proper test equipment I would find a hairline crack or two on the aluminum body of the reg.

I understand fully that some like to slightly over pressurize a gun past it’s factory spec requirement like an additional 20 BAR for additional shot count, but it was very obvious this was pushed way past its limit, like maybe 70 BAR, repeatedly.

There was nothing wrong with the original tune of the gun, 160 BAR Huma reg set and speeds close to 960 with the 34 grain JSB’s, as I like that type of power. But, with that power I also know shot count will be at around 18-24 shots max out of an air tube gun such as the wildcat. But my hunch shows that thing was probably getting way way more shots, like close to 40, and proof of that was just the condition of the o rings from over filling.

its on its way to a good, loving and caring home, now. A life free of abuse, ha ha!!
