BANG…. “Oops”…

So I had a buddy over earlier to help me putting up some heavy storage shelves in the basement, which is also where I currently shoot out of the window and my rifles are on a wall…

He saw them and goes “can we shoot a bit”? Sure, why not, you’re helping me out here so obviously. Pick your poison :) Looks at the P3, thoughtful facial expression, “this one looks like it packs a punch!”. Off we go, I put the bipod on for him, show him the safety, mag, how to load and cycle etc… “careful with the trigger, it’s very very light”. He is a PB guy so… yeah yeah, don’t worry, I got this. Oki doki. Anyway, I turn around cause he wants to try the impact as well so I go back to my wall of toys and grab the impact to put another bipod on and top it off… The next thing I hear is a pretty loud BANG, followed by a couple of seconds of silence. Then comes a very lengthy “Oops…”. What did the idiot do? Take the mod off? Shot himself in the foot? Neither of those… he didn’t open the freaking window… so if you ever wondered how a 34gr at around 915fps goes through a window, it looks something like this:

Oh boy, wish I could say id never do that. Then again I have a piece of blue painters tape on my window to prevent any lapses of thought on my part. 🤣 Atleast it's an easy window pane to remove/replace. That's what friends are for!
Yeah window already on the way… at first I was simply astonished… Couldn’t believe that this ACTUALLY HAPPENED… Now I just laugh about it and will give the guy poop for it for… well, forever I guess :) Can’t wait to tell the story in a very lengthy version next time we get together with other buddies to shot PBs. That’s definitely worth the $230 for the window :)

Yep, I have Daffy Duck'd a few " accidental discharges" that would make Buggs Bunny proud.
Same here. The very first thing I always do when getting to the basement to shoot out of it is open the window. Too many “oh oh, I didn’t actually want to send that one yet” moments to not account for them as well. I also once shot a target box to shreds when zeroing a scope going higher and higher and higher… just to realize that I shot a perfectly straight line going up on the right side of the box. I would like to say I was zoomed in too far so couldn’t see. But the shots where actually within the FOV…

I will take this time to laugh with and not at you since this recently happened to me as well. I did it at point blank with the P-rod. I now have a bullseye sticker on my new pane.

Hahaha well, I might steal the sticker idea once I have the new window :)

Hmmmm. 🤔. Looks oddly familiar. Did the same thing last winter with the same projectile. 👍
I am not going to tell him that he’s not alone though, at least not too soon :) the truth is could very well have happened to me… winter sucks :)
Haha! poop happens. I’m sure his heart sank!!!
yeah he was pretty perplexed :) but pretty soon after we were back to having a beer and putting up shelves, so he recovered :)

Looks like he will be buying all the beer for awhile.
You bet! He offered to pay for the window of course but he was there helping me and is a good friend, so I just told him not to worry and that he can buy the next couple of rounds of beer, so you’re spot on!

I sorely get tempted to shoot from inside the house in Winter, letting the cold in precludes that and shooting through a window…?!🫣 That said, to avoid going without shooting. I will sit outside in reasonable Winter weather an take a few shots and scurry back inside. Sweet that the whole window did not shatter and you were able to quickly patch it. More importantly what did your wife say?…🙈

Hahaha yeah I feel you, but the basement is unfinished and cold anyway… but still better than outside :) she was fairly relaxed about it actually. It wasn’t me you know ;)

Unfortunately I didn’t know what a P3 was to get the full grasp of the story.
I know it’s an awful situation, but you did get a laugh out me the way you presented it.
I truly hate when good time goes bad.

Glad to give you a laugh :) it’s fine really, after the initial “oh fack” moment it turned into a funny situation. Plus I can give him poop for it forever :)

In the winter I pull the screen out of my dining room window a put up an insert I made with a shooting port. My dad was here one time and wanted to do some shooting. Out of the blue he says you need to put something on that window in that port so you know the window is open. I just blew off the comment. Then a month later I blew out the window. Now it has a UA sticker on it during the winter months. I have a stock pile of those stickers. I’m 56 and my dad is 82 and I still don’t always listen to him. And it always costs me.
