I thought I was done responding to this thread but I got sucked back in...
Look guys, there is no way to get around the fact that some of you are demanding that other people behave a certain way so that your delicate sensibilities are not affronted. You are trying to decide for other people what words you will allow them to speak. There is no other way around it.
Frankly, I tend to agree with most everyone who is saying that vulgar language is offensive but that is where I draw the line. You want to use it, fine. If I don't want to hear it, I'll find a way to avoid hearing it BUT I am not going to infringe upon your right to choose what words come out of your mouth.
There is a time and a place for everything.
The thing that started this conversation was the realization that the word "cock" which is clearly airgun related was being blocked by the "word police software". The mods said they were working on it. I figure at this point they have either fixed it or are watching this thread and getting a big laugh out of it. Even they could not really believe that the word cock should be a banned word on a forum about airguns.
As I said elsewhere, blocking that word out with asterisks, simply reminds me every time I see it of the vulgar word. That is sort of "self-defeating" in an oxymoronic way, don't you think? It's like a ten year old kid saying, "Oh! LOOK! He said COCK! hehehe." You see how that works. We can no longer cock our rifles but we are now safe from being offended.
The whole "rules" thing we are doing now just stinks of GTA. They even look like the rule set at GTA. Oh well. Not my circus, not my monkeys.
I am most assuredly done now. Sorry to have returned to this thread. I wonder if there is a way to block a thread? Anyone know?
