Banned Words

Ok last post for me on this thread “maybe”, it turned into something completely different than I intended.

To everyone saying negative things about people using the awful words is not good. You’re generalizing and everytime you do that it’s you against whatever group you just put that person in, and you automatically seem dumb to the person you called dumb. Maybe that’s how we got to everyone thinking everyone else is a dumbass! We’ve generalized enough in this country, we’ve got every person in a group that we dislike and it’s ripping us apart one fiber at a time, and giving power to the absolute last people we want to give power to. I’ve met people who sounded like the dumbest backwoods redneck, or whatever accent you would like to use, and they turned out to be a highly intelligent, highly educated human that if I would have generalized I may not have seen just how special they were. One man in particular also used a lot of profanity, but that’s beside the point. Anyway it’s ok if we disagree or don’t like each other. It’s even ok if we don’t like each other for stupid reasons that bare no truth. We should have enough respect for one another to not judge off of one character trait.
Love my airgun brethren, hope everyone gets lots of good quiet toys for Father’s Day! Y’all have a good weekend!

If profanity bothers you then don’t read the post. Or don’t read posts by that member. We are (mostly) adults here, and make our own choices. I don’t believe in censoring adult speech short of hate speech and inciting violence.

I try not to use profanity in my written communication, but sometimes a good cuss word is just that, a good cuss word!

And banning, or censoring a phrase like “he cocked the rifle” is simply ridiculous. For what its worth, I always cock my rifles before i shoot.

Amazing. It actually censored the word before “my rifles”. That’s simply the most ridiculous thing I have experienced in a while!

My vocabulary has enough depth that I don’t need to use profanity to express myself on a daily basis when communicating with people. I save profanity for when I need someone’s attention or for humor. I don’t necessarily judge someone’s intelligence as they spew profanity using it as nouns, pronouns, adjectives, and verbs but it does make it hard for me to listen to them. They kind of lose me because I find it humorous and think to myself, how many more times can a human squeeze that word into a sentence. That being said, I’ve been on this forum for a while and very rarely saw profanity used in bad taste. If I have to male chicken my airguns for a while, so be it. As long as they still go off when I pull the trigger.

Cock oh that's funny. But I just experimented and found a whole bunch of words that aren't censored thank goodness!

What's also funny is that using stereotypes is considered a terrible sin in today's society yet pattern recognition and making snap judgements is the basis of intelligence. If a rabbit doesn't "profile" and judge foxes - all foxes - they aren't long for this world. Of course if you can gather additional information and make decisions based on individuals it's better but often time does not allow. And while it may surprise some people, stereotyping has been studied for many years and every study confirms... stereotypes are mostly, largely true. There are always outliers but if you have to make a bet whether it's a mugger or critter, the odds are with the stereotypers and not the "blank state" every thing is equal.

Well I'm going to have some German cock soup and a **** candy bar ;-p

And the question is, who decides what that definition is?

No, my friend, I believe the ONLY way to have open discourse is to allow ALL speech, words, phrases, ideas.

Try not to be overly offensive and try to not be too easily offended.

often there is a standard lexicon of words that are contained in filtering solutions, and these can typically be edited to fit the site.
i have had to admin content filters for internet access as well as email (for a healthcare company).
management decided to adopt the canned lexicon (against my advice) for email, which caused all sorts of valid emails to end up quarantined.
for example, MRI techs need ear protection that doesn't have anything magnetic (iron free) but they used a term that was in the banned lexicon.
iron free ear m uff. 🤣

this topic makes the rounds on various forums regularly.
i find it amusing how many people still equate swearing with low intelligence (it is actually the opposite).
not that i condone swearing in front of kids...but perhaps that is backward boomer thinking now...

like the shopping cart analogy, i believe the kids need to have the discipline to not do things (like swearing) just because they are told it is wrong.
when kids are not taught self restraint for something easy like not saying the f word, what hope do we have that they won't do something they actually get a reward from, like drugs or cheating or stealing?
it is a basic test of character...

Obviously people who swear come form all walks of life, but to claim that swearing is a sign of intelligence? I think you'll have a great deal of difficulty validating that claim.

I guess this is a family friendly forum so no adult language or politics. There are plenty of other places one can let it run lose and I do, just not here.
People keep saying this but I've never found a forum or social media app that allows free speech and open debate. Not even the supposedly free speech apps like GAB allow unfettered free speech. Even on the supposed dark web, stuff gets censored (besides it's all Feds anyway).

Outside of airguns, it would be good to have places where people can talk openly and have civil non-violent debates that are based or even scored because people argue the crux of the argument instead of insulting each other. But I fear this is impossible.

first off, i apologize because i didn't mean to say swearing was a sign of intelligence., i meant swearing is not a sign of low intelligence.
there is a difference between those 2 statements, if you are bright enough to distinguish between them.
