Barrel cleaning Issue. Any help appreciated.

Hi guys. I have a .25 cal condor ss. I have written a couple of posts about the barrel fouling and my dirty fingers after shooting a certain pellet. So I washed and lubed the pellets to see if that helps. (Will know this week after trying for the golf ball thing.) But I want to head up with a clean barrel. A few people on this forum said to try WD-40 on my patches to clean the barrel. It works great but after pulling about 50 coated patches through and then multiple dry patches, it never seems to come out clean. It is much cleaner than when I started, but not clean. I still see light black rifling streaks on the patch. Is this normal? Or should I keep going till it is pure white? Im gonna run out out of patches after a few cleanings. So much easier with powder burners and a bore brush.
 
"Michael"I wouldn't recommend WD-40. I use CLP, but lots of people like Ballistol. Have you seen AEAC's latest video?

I've used Ballistol for years and clean from breach to muzzle........I did find a patchworm and ordered one kit to try after I saw his video it's a lot easier then trying to get a cleaning patch on the rod end at the breach. I didn't want to try my Bore snake being it has the brass brush on it for my 22LR and I didn't want to cut it off.

 wahoowad i use a weedwacker string and about 5 small patches. I leave on 4 and change the top one after i use both sides. When pulling through it is very tight and takes some effort to pull through. So i know it is getting all the nooks and crannies. I think i will try the Ballistol and/or CLP. As for now i just kept pulling dry patches and it cleaned up a bit more but not great. 

kk4iz said he uses FP-10 but when i looked it up, it said it is a lubricant and not a cleaner. Im hoping he will chime back in, in case i missed something.

I like those Round discs that come with the PatchWorm pocket kit,if I could of just got those I would of cut a 40" piece of line off of my weedwacker and been done with it.....Ballistol is pretty good stuff.

Thanks imold. I think I'm going to get that. Seems to be a crowd favorite. The weedwacker string works great. I just put a lighter under the end for a few seconds and then pushed it straight down flattening a small area. It holds the patches very well. I use a McDonalds straw in the muzzle. But i would like the patchworm also. Im spending so much on .25 pellets now I have to take it easy with the money.

Hey imold i forgot to ask. Did you hit the golf ball yet?? Im going upstate tomorrow for 3 or 4 days to try. uh I mean hit it!

The weather hasn't been all that great with rain and wind and the Airgun I was going to use that I just got has a bad barrel so I just got it sent back today via FedEx so now I'm going to see if my other one will reach out 150-200 yards, I did get some FX No-Limit rings to put on if I need to. I still have time but it's running out hahaha....Hopefully I'll get the Airgun back in time to use it.....

Lately, the first patch I pull through the barrel is one wetted with Simple Green, which is a good strong detergent. Then one or two dry patches, followed by a patch wetted with Ballistol. I repeat the Ballistol patches until they come out fairly clean. Finally, a couple of dry patches to remove all cleaning product residue. I have also found that lubed pellets do not improve accuracy. The lube just gums up the barrel faster. You may need to polish the bore of your barrel with JB Borepaste.

When is the last time you've cleaned it? If it's that hard to remove it sounds like you need a couple of strokes with a nylon brush soaked with oil to loosen it up and clean it out with the wipes afterwards. You need a tight fit to ensure that the barrel becomes clean and that almost all oil will be leaving the barrel with the wipes (a small amount will remain inside to prevent rusting).

I use a netarm pull through cord with their caliber specific wicks. The first time you'll use this you'll for sure think it's never going to fit inside the barrel but it works perfectly!

which oil you should use is mostly down to preference but WD40 isn't one I would use. I personally use Hoppe's, breakfree CLP or ballistol. Why these oils? They're easily available where I live and they do their job just fine so why not ;)

Small tip, if your airgun has a TP: hold the airgun upside down when cleaning (so scope rail downwards), this way you'll prevent dripping of oil into the wrong places

I use a Nylon brush from my Umarex cleaning kit (.177 & .22) with my Dewey nylon coated ball bearing cleaning rod. Spear-tip jags and patches I wet with Rem-Oil spray. It's a lube they make that has Teflon lube in it too. 2 patches through the bore, then spray the brush with it and 4 strokes back-n-forth. Then wetted patches till fairly clean. Then dry patches till dry. Gets the rifling clean too with the ball bearing handle on the rod.
​The bores on my air rifles get dirty a lot faster than they recommend to clean them. I measured it with my chronograph. Black filthy crud like my powder burners, just a different chemical make-up. They always shoot better after a good cleaning. But that FP-10 is sounding good too.

Thanks guys. Just got back from shooting the AGD golfballs upstate. Got the 150 and 175 yards. They never sent me my free one so on my next order i will try for 200. But the barrel was clean when I left and will check tonight to see how it faired after 6 or 7 hundred washed and lubed pellets. 150 yds took 2 shots and 5 for 175 yds. Im getting the ballistol for cleaning now on. One thing for sure is my fingers were much cleaner after shooting!!
