Skout BASIC Q'S FOR SKOUT EVO

Finally pulled the trigger on the Skout EVO in .25 with the 35" slug barrel. Should be here early next week. Yay me.
I had toyed with getting it in .30 but where I am there are no airgun BR organized groups, (that I know of in my area), to start cutting my teeth with. I like the comradery and the chance to pick up tips and advice.... Maybe a .30 barrel next year.....

A couple of things I'm not clear on that maybe some Evo owner might help me with.

1. Can the regulator be adjusted up and down under pressure? I know that FX's and Huma's can be adjusted down without first depressurizing the gun. I can't seem to find the definitive answer to my question with the Skout manual.

2. The manual states, (I think), that the Lo reg automatically adjusts as one adjusts the Hi reg. That's pretty cool if indeed that's the case, but is there a time you'd independently adjust the Lo side? If so, is there some kind of ratio formula like with the M3? I just a bit confused as to the actual function of the lo reg and how it can be used to the gun's advantage.

3. What kind of speed are the Corbin's liking with this slug barrel? Are any other slugs having any success with this 35" slug barrel besides the Corbin's.

Thanks in advance to anyone who might want to chime in.

Congrats! I just picked up the same configuration. I previously owned an Epoch, so this will be my 2nd Skout. Most of the parts are still very similar. I looked into most of your questions, so while I don’t have 1st hand experience with the Evo to answer, I have owned the Skout and have researched.

1) Reg can be adjusted up and down under pressure, per videos released by Skout.
2) The Low reg does adjust with the High. I have heard that there isn’t much point in trying to adjust it yourself, per well known users. I don’t think there is technically a set point. I have heard 15%, but the sample pressures in the manual are mostly less than that. Motorhead suggested that it wasn’t worth messing with too much and that the dwell was probably more useful (paraphrasing).
3) I have seen a wide range of speeds in videos. I think one of Bills videos talks about it and I’ve been meaning to go back and look. I have seen videos ranging from 930-995. I am curious as well. I will share what I find when it is warm enough to shoot.

Hey,
Thanks so much for the response and info. I can mess up boiling a pot of water so wanted to be very sure about things. Your rigs look great! It's Christmas so cheaped out a bit and went with the skeleton stock and no Arca rail. I can always get those down the road. Gotta save some scratch for X-mas presents!

Also hoping for warmer weather here!

Cheers
KP

That would be interesting. Considering the scope mount i bought has 20MOA built in...
I did a bit of a search and can't find anything on the Skout scope rail. I think I've been looking at too many air guns as I made my decision and could be getting things mixed up so I think I'll retract that guess for now. Apologies.

I just went back and found a couple of the posts from Skout from 4-5 months ago when the slugs were released.

“1700-1750 HP 190-200 LP and 880 to 920 FPS.”

And another Skout post that said “920-950 which would take 1700-1800 on the HP”.

Songs videos were up at 950 and 995, I think.

Can I ask what are the main differences between the Epoch and the Evo?
If you factor out the barrels most of it is ergonomics. It’s like 1.5 lbs lighter, the regs are oriented differently so easier to see while shooting and have a stiffer spring for higher pressures. The digital readout screen is larger and in the side of the grip instead or rear. The battery and charge port is much more conveniently located. The on off on the bottle is an upgrade and when used degasses the gun as well so no degas screw on the side of the gun. You can buy the stiffer reg spring for the epoch and the upgraded on off valve. Really isn’t a huge difference if you make a cpl changes to the epoch other than weight.

Butt stock is skeletonized to save weight. I believe it too can be fitted to the epoch.

When buying i pretty much convinced myself by the data; that the EVO was a refined EPOCH. I couldn't find a place where the EVO fell short compared to the EPOCH. The one thing that kept me from buying an EPOCH when they first came out was the size. It's huge! The EVO however...

Thin for the win baby!

The Evo arrived late yesterday. I'm a musician and had to get to the gig, so time for just a quick peak then out the door. All I could think of was that Evo on the gig. Man that is one well built gun! Impressed!
This morning I cleaned the barrel, made initial notes on factory settings from Skout and got the rifle out in front of the Chonograph.

V.ave=924 with Corbin 48.8 gr
ES=6
SD=1.81

The Evo is really starting out on a great note! Winds are out of the south today bringing the temps way up, but it was really too windy to try for any groups. Roughed in the scope and hopefully tomorrow things will be calmer and I can go ahead and beak things in a bit. I'll use pellets to start then back to slugs.

What HP/LP settings are you at with that speed? I’m not getting the speeds at the settings I quoted a few posts back that they provided earlier this year.
