BCSA (Binghamton, NY) - June 4th, 2022 Match Report
Second Match of 2022 at Broome County Sportsmens Association (BCSA) is in the books….and what an awesome day! For match time, the weather started out near 60 degrees with light wind with gusts around 7 - 8mph. The day finished with temps around 70 with wind gusts to near 20 mph! Most of those gusts were during the pistol /10m / practice match which made things very interesting, especially for the low powered shooters. Sunshine….shadows….lots of smiling faces….awesome day!!
It was an all hands on deck setup this time around and is greatly appreciated! We setup Friday afternoon. My wife Pat and I were joined by Bill Campbell, Louis Hopewell and later on Nic Gregoris! Pat push mowed, I string trimmed, Louis and Bill laid out the targets. After that, all of us went lane by lane and set the 5 targets in each lane which went very quick!
Pat and I arrived at the range around 6:00 am to start pulling strings and put the final touches on the field target range. After finishing the strings, we headed over to set the sight-in range and just like last month, Just as we started, Brian Van Liew arrived and jumped in to help. In no time, we were set for the day!
17 competitors for the day which included Stephan and Karen who made their first trip to BCSA and also, Tom and Eileen Ryan along with their dog Zinc made another trip up and Dennis Himes along with his wife Ronda and their dog Loki….thanks all for coming along this time!!
The course of fire was 10 lanes with 3 targets per lane. 2 shots per target with the shooting order being left, middle, right. There was also the usual 1 standing lane and 1 kneeling lane. The stats for the days 60 shot course are as follows:
With the ever present wind along with gusts to near 20 mph, I’d put the difficulty closer to the 41 figure.
We had one cold line due to one target locking up on clean paddle hits. It was quickly replaced and we were back in action! The string getting caught up on the Egrets foot this time around was a distant memory! A few modifications to the target were made since the last match and all is now well……………fingers crossed it stays!
This time around Dennis Himes took Match high honors for the day with a 52 in Hunter PCP followed not too far behind by Jerry LaRocca with a 48 also in Hunter PCP. The remainder of the scores can be found below.
After the conclusion of the rifle match, just before resetting for the pistol match, we held a drawing for another Pyramyd Air Gift card! Pyramyd Air has graciously provided $300 worth of gift certificates to use for prizes!!! Pyramyd has also provided our club with targets to be used at our matches! For the drawing, we put 6 tickets in a bucket (3 -$25, 2 - $50 and 1- $100) and drew 1. We will draw 1 each match until all are awarded. Today’s draw was for $25. Each competitor was given 1 ticket and after mixing up the tickets in the bucket and having Betsy Dunlap reach in and pick one. Doug and Betsy Dunlap came to just visit us all and it is always great to see those 2! This time around, Tom Ryan came out victor! Congrats!! We want to thank Pyramyd Air for their generosity and support and hope that you be sure to visit them for all your airgun needs! https://www.pyramydair.com/
After the drawing, everyone jumped in and helped pick up and pack away the rifle targets. Awesome and quick when everybody jumps in! Thank You!
Doug and Betsy hung out and chatted while 9 of us took to the lanes for the pistol/low powered non magnified/practice match! Nathan Thomas took some shots with a borrowed Walther LGV while Dennis Himes shot the course Kneeling for practice. The non-magnifed competitors for the day were Dennis Himes (Yes, he shot 2 classes!), Doug Rogers, Brian Van Liew and Rick Vaeth. The other 4 of us all shot Hunter Pistol!
The course of fire was 10 lanes with 2 targets per lane. 2 shots per target with the shooting order being left, right. There were 2 standing lanes and the stats for the days 40 shot course are as follows:
As with the rifle match, I’d say this was much closer to the 43.54 figure due to the almost ever present wind gusts!
As usual, after the match was finished, everyone remaining jumped in and we made super quick work of the cleanup! All the help is GREATLY appreciated! Thanks to all that came out, especially those from a far!!! Let’s hope that we have a very similar forecast for next months match!!!
