BCSA (Binghamton, NY) - August 10th, 2024 Match Report
Broome County Sportsmens Association (BCSA) Field Target Match Report
The 4th Match for 2024 has been completed! It was a rough week weatherwise in the Binghamton area this week. We had to contend with the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby. The targets were set on Thursday (8/8/24) to try and beat the incoming inclement weather. Nope! They were set in the midst of a steady rain on Thursday then were allowed to sit in the mostly all day rain on Friday. The only bright side was we were afforded a fantastic match day! Temps for the day ranged from the mid 60’s to the mid 70’s. The humidity dropped significantly from what it has been. And the winds were from light breezes to a few gusts which caused for quite a few head scratching moments.
We had 11 people on hand for this match……and 1 of those people brought a big stack of delicious cookies! Thank you Karen!!!!
The course of fire for the rifle match was 10 lanes with 3 targets per lane. 2 shots per target with the shooting order being left, middle, right. There was also the usual 1 standing lane and 1 kneeling lane. The stats for the 60 shot course are as follows:
The breakdown for the percentage of targets based on difficulty was:
No cold lines, everything behaved as it should!
The light breezes to the higher gusts created a few misses for the day. Along with that, some target placements in light/dark areas added to the difficulty. Brian Van Liew was able to lock in high score for the day with a 51 out of 60 in Open PCP. The second highest score for the day was a 43 out of 60. Karen Reis and Brian Wagner both had 43’s in Hunter PCP. Next highest Hunter PCP scores were Stephan Hottenrott with a 42 and Paul Manktelow with a 40. I had a 41 in Hunter Piston and Doug Rogers was just 1 point behind with a 40. All the scores can be seen below,
After the conclusion of the rifle match, while the scores were tallied, everyone jumped in and helped pick up and pack away the rifle targets and pull the strings for the High Power targets. As always, Thank You All, all the help is greatly appreciated!
Before the start of the High Power match, we had the drawing to determine our 50/50 winner. After mixing up the tickets in the bucket, Janet Manktelow pulled the winning ticket. The winner this time around was Stephan Hottenrott….Congrats!!! Again this month, we drew a second ticket for those that participated in the 50/50. This was for a deer swinger target and Brian Van Liew was the winner!
High Power Field Target Time!
The course of fire was 5 lanes with 4 targets per lane and 1 standing lane. All lanes were shot left to right with a total of 44 shots. The course stats were as follows.
5 people participated in the High Power FT match this time around.
We had 1 cold line just to fix a broken string …..well, actually a broken split ring. The homemade modified standard field targets that have been converted to high power targets continue to work well and false falls were not seen.
After the match was completed, everyone jumped in and we made quick work of the cleanup, stacking the big blocks out of the way and packing away all the targets! As always, all the help is GREATLY GREATLY appreciated!
We had another drawing for another swinger target for those that remained for the HP FT match. The winner of the of the moose swinger was Brian Wagner! Yep, 2 of the Brians won 2 of the Noteworthy Targets swingers.
Our next match is scheduled for September 7th…….See you there!
