Broome County Sportsmens Association (BCSA) FT match….and yet another awesome day! The 3rd match in a row with near the same conditions as our last couple matches. For a lot of us, the drive to the match had temperatures in the low 40’s, but at match time, the weather started out around 60 degrees with light winds. As the day went on, temps rose to around 75 with winds between 5 and 20 mph. As like the last match………Sunshine….shadows….lots of smiling faces….and yet another awesome day!!
Bill Campbell, my wife Pat and I set the course on Friday afternoon. I went further down the shelf this time around and pulled out some old Pounded Paddle and Turner targets to put into the rotation. They were bench and field tested to make sure they were all functioning perfectly and that there would be no issues during the match! Also added were a few Paul Porch Gamo face plates. I didn't want to shoot the gnome, but these were donated by Paul Manktelow and he said that it was ok!
On Saturday morning, all the strings were pulled, the sight-in range was set and we awaited the arrival of the days participants. Paul and Janet Manktelow were the first to arrive followed right behind by Trevor Davies! When all was said and done, we had 18 competitors which included return visits from Mike Norris and Jim Danvers…..welcome back gentlemen! Thomas and Dennis Himes brought along Scott Collins with them to join in the days fun! I was good to see Tom back out on the lanes and on the mend.
The course of fire was 10 lanes with 3 targets per lane. 2 shots per target with the shooting order being left, middle, right. There was also the usual 1 standing lane and 1 kneeling lane. The stats for the days 60 shot course are as follows:
Jim Danvers arrived just after the first shots were made, so he got his stuff together and jumped right into the mix. He chose his Taipan Veteran for the day, started out fine then things went down hill a bit. Near the end of the match, Tom Himes let him take some shots with his Red Wolf and Chuck Senkus did the same with his Revere. Pretty sure Jim either went home and got out the credit card or slapped together something else for next months match!
There were 14 Hunter PCP shooters for the day. From those, Dennis Himes took Match high honors for the day with a 56 in Hunter PCP followed behind was his brother Tom with a 53 then Scott Collins with a 48. The rest of us followed behind with the scores shown below. We had 4 other classes represented with lone shooters. Mike Norris, returning after a brief hiatus was our Open PCP competitor and finished with a 33, Nic Gregoris, WFTF PCP, with a 44, Nathan Thomas, WFTF Piston, with a 31 and Kevin Kunkle, Hunter Piston, with a 28.
After the conclusion of the rifle match, everyone jumped in and helped pick up and pack away the rifle targets and pull the strings for the pistol targets. Thank You All! We then held a drawing for another Pyramyd Air Gift card! Pyramyd Air has graciously provided $300 worth of gift certificates to use for prizes this season!!! Pyramyd has also provided our club with targets to be used at our matches! For the drawing, we put 5 tickets in a bucket (2 -$25, 2 - $50 and 1- $100) and drew 1. We will draw 1 each match until all are awarded. Today’s draw was for $25. Each competitor was given 1 ticket and after mixing up the tickets in the bucket, Betsy Dunlap reached in and pick one. This time around, Scott Collins stepped forward with the winning ticket! Congrats!! We want to thank Pyramyd Air for their generosity and support and hope that you be sure to visit them for all your airgun needs! https://www.pyramydair.com/
We also did a drawing for a couple Noteworthy swinger targets. Douglas Rogers was the first winner and Trevor Davies was the second ………Congrats!
10 of us took to the lanes for the pistol/low powered non magnified/practice match! The non-magnifed competitors for the day were Doug Rogers, Tom Himes and Scott Collins. 4 of us shot Hunter Pistol, Nathan Thomas tested out a new to me pistol in Limited Pistol and for practice, Dennis Himes shot standing/kneeling and Paul Manktelow got reacquainted with his refreshed TX200 !
The course of fire was 10 lanes with 2 targets per lane. 2 shots per target with the shooting order being left, right. There were 2 standing lanes and the stats for the days 40 shot course are as follows:
