BCSA (Binghamton, NY) - July 13th, 2024 Match Report
Broome County Sportsmens Association (BCSA) Field Target Match Report
Match 3 for 2024 has been completed! All the forecasts for the week were showing that we’d be in for a nice calm day with temperatures rising to near 90 along with the standard dose of humidity! During setup and the match, the temperatures ranged from 70 to 85 with humidity levels between 60% to 90%. The winds were from near calm to light breezes.
We had 15 people on hand to spend the day knocking down metal critters! The course of fire for the rifle match was 10 lanes with 3 targets per lane. 2 shots per target with the shooting order being left, middle, right. There was also the usual 1 standing lane and 1 kneeling lane. The stats for the 60 shot course are as follows:
The breakdown for the percentage of targets based on difficulty was:
No cold lines, but the Stoutenberg target that was called into question last month was not acting right and points were given for that target to all. That target will most likely become a scrap parts target in order to keep the others running and in service.
This time around, the stronger winds that were present at the previous matches gave everyone a break, but a light breeze and the light/dark play added to the difficulty. Nathan Thomas was able to lock in high score for the day with a 45 out of 60 in WFTF Piston. Second highest score for the day was a 41 out of 60. Karen Reis, Brian Wagner and Rich Sarama all had 41’s in Hunter PCP while I had a 41 in Hunter Piston. The rest of the scores followed closely behind with the majority in the range from 40 - 33.
After the conclusion of the rifle match, while the scores were tallied, everyone jumped in and helped pick up and pack away the rifle targets and pull the strings for the High Power targets. Thank You All, all the help is greatly appreciated!
Before the start of the High Power match, we had the drawing to determine our 50/50 winner. After mixing up the tickets in the bucket, the winning ticket was drawn. The winner this time around was Rick Vaeth!!! We also drew a second ticket for those that participated in the 50/50. This was for a deer swinger target. Jacob Pattison was the winner!
High Power Field Target Time!
The course of fire was 5 lanes with 4 targets per lane and 1 standing lane with 2 targets. All lanes were shot left to right with a total of 44 shots. The course stats were as follows.
8 people participated in the High Power FT match this time around. There was a couple others that were going to participate but equipment issues caused them to drop out before the match started. We had quite the caliber swing this time around, Chuck Senkus was shooting his 0.177 caliber Ghost with 13 gr KO slugs while Brian Wagner was using his 0.30 caliber Impact. Only caliber missing between those two was 0.20! We had 1 cold line just to fix a string that was caught on a target. So far the homemade high power targets are working well and false falls were not seen.
Paul and Janet Manktelow and Rich and Brian Sarama stayed and hung out during the HP match. While the match was winding down, the aforementioned, Pat and I started pulling off the tarps and packing things up. After the match was completed, everyone (including the ones that were spectating) jumped in and we made quick work of the cleanup, tearing down the canopies and packing away all the targets! As always, all the help is GREATLY GREATLY appreciated!
We also had a drawing for another swinger target for those that remained for the HP FT match. The winner of the of the elk swinger was Jacob Pattison! Yep, you read that right…another sweep!!! Jacob walked away with 2 Noteworthy Targets swingers.
Our next match is scheduled for August 10th…….See you there!
