BCSA (Binghamton, NY) - June 8th, 2024 Match Report

Broome County Sportsmens Association (BCSA) Field Target Match Report

Match 2 for 2024 is in the rearview along with another rollercoaster pre match forecast. The early weather forecasts were calling for rain then showers then finally a slight movement in the right direction! We had a dry Friday morning which allowed us to get the courses set. The showers arrived late on Friday which afforded us a dry yet windy match day!

A few setup pictures that show the light and dark that's dealt with......wish the camera could show the wind!!

The entrance area of our Field Target/Plinking Range received an upgrade. A sign has been recently been installed memorializing our fallen airgun friend/mentor/colleague Dave Lee. He is missed by all those that knew him. R.I.P…..your memory lives on!!

We had 14 people on hand for the day which included 1 new competitor and a first timer to our range. Matt Coulter made BCSA his first official FT match while Jacob Pattison made a trip down to Binghamton! Welcome!

Below is a snapshot of the conditions that were dealt with during the rifle match (9:00am - 12:00am). Was a very challenging day, but provided good wind practice for those in attendance!

As shown above, temperatures ranged from 60 to 65 but with the constant winds, the real feel was much lower. The course is set so that the switchy and swirling winds definitely added a challenge to the day. There were times that holding off the target was the norm.

The course of fire was 10 lanes with 3 targets per lane. 2 shots per target with the shooting order being left, middle, right. There was also the usual 1 standing lane and 1 kneeling lane. The The course was set with a lower T value than last months, but with the breezes we had during setup on Friday and the forecast, I knew it was going to shoot much harder, The stats for the 60 shot course are as follows:

We did have 1 cold line. A Stoutenberg target was called into question. The Target tester was brought out and the target passed multiple tests, so it was left in play and the match resumed.

As was the case last month, the wind took it’s toll on everyone! Brian VanLiew was able to lock in high score for the day with a 49 out of 60 in Open PCP. Second place was Chuck Senkus with a 44 in Hunter PCP. 6 points behind Chuck was Karen Reis and Doug Rogers both with 38’s. 1 point behind those 2 was Brian Wagner and Rich Sarama with 37’s. The rest of us fell in line behind them and the remaining scores can be seen below.

A relaxing fun filled day was had by all!

After the conclusion of the rifle match, while the scores were tallied, everyone jumped in and helped pick up and pack away the rifle targets and pull the strings for the Pistol targets. Thank You All, all the help is greatly appreciated!

Before the start of the Pistol match, we had the drawing to determine our 50/50 winner. After mixing up the tickets in the bucket, the winning ticket was drawn. The winner this time around was Brian Sarama!!! We also drew a second ticket for those that participated in the 50/50. This was for a Stegasaurus swinger target. Rich Sarama was the winner! A father son sweep!

Pistol Field Target Time!

The course of fire was 10 lanes with 2 targets per lane and 2 standing lanes. Yes…2 standing lanes! All lanes were shot left to right with a total of 40 shots. The course stats were as follows.

7 people participated in the Pistol FT match this time around. Doug Rogers shot the course kneeling and standing with his FT rifle while I was the lone competitor in 10M rifle with my Air Arms T200. The other 5 were shooting Hunter Pistol. Things went smoothly with no cold lines. While the match was winding down, Pat and I started pulling off the tarps. After the match was finished, everyone remaining jumped in and we made super quick work of the cleanup, tearing down the canopies and packing away all the targets! All the help is GREATLY GREATLY appreciated!

We also had a drawing for another swinger target for those that remained for the Pistol match. The winner of the of the snail swinger was Brian Sarama! Yep, you read that right…a Sarama sweep!!!

Our next match is scheduled for July 13th…….See you there!
