BCSA (Binghamton, NY) - October 5th, 2024 Match Report
Broome County Sportsmens Association (BCSA) Field Target Match Report
The 2024 season has come to an end at BCSA! The long range forecast for match day was showing that we’d be in for a perfect fall type day! Wednesday was the only off day off the week. It was a misty rainy day, but the days after that were sunny with more fall like temps. The targets were set on Friday in prep for our final match of 2024. Match day provided us with a variety of conditions. We had sunny skies to cloudy skies to partly sunny…. the winds ranged from 4 mph to near 10mph and were coming from all different directions..and the temps for the day ranged from the 50 degrees to the mid 60’s.
High power and standard field targets cohabitating….
We arrived early, before sunrise to start pulling strings and finalizing the pre match duties.
We had 15 people on hand for this match……and 1 of those people brought a big tray of delicious blueberry and apple cinnamon muffins to share! Thank you Karen!!!!
The course of fire for the rifle match was 10 lanes with 3 targets per lane. 2 shots per target with the shooting order being left, middle, right. There was also the usual 1 standing lane and 1 kneeling lane. The stats for the 60 shot course are as follows:
The breakdown for the percentage of targets based on difficulty was:
No cold lines, everything behaved as it should!
Between the wind and the changing light conditions the course played tougher than it was set. There were targets in light unprotected areas and targets in dark protected areas along with everything in between! Brian Van Liew was able to lock in high score for the day with a 49 out of 60 in Open PCP. The second highest score for the day was a 47 out of 60 from Doug Rogers in Hunter PCP. Right behind Doug in Hunter PCP, Stephan Hottenrott with 46, Chuck Senkus with 45 and Karen Reis with 44. The rest of us followed behind and all the scores can be seen below.
After the conclusion of the rifle match, while the scores were tallied, everyone jumped in and helped pick up and pack away the rifle targets and pull the strings for the High Power targets. As always, Thank You All, all the help is greatly appreciated!
Before the start of the High Power match, we had the drawing to determine our 50/50 winner. After mixing up the tickets in the bucket, Nathan Thomas pulled the winning ticket. The winner this time around was Paul Manktelow….Congrats!!! We drew a second ticket for those that participated in the 50/50 for one of our 2 last remaining Noteworthy Targets. This was for a buffalo swinger target and Stephan was the winner!
High Power Field Target Time!
The course of fire was 5 lanes with 4 targets per lane and 1 standing lane with 2 targets. All lanes were shot left to right with a total of 44 shots. The course stats were as follows.
9 people participated in the High Power FT match this time around.
3 of us were trying out our new equipment…1 of us was more prepared than the other 2.
No cold lines and besides our 4 commercial targets, the modified standard field targets we use continue to work well with no false falls seen.
After the match was completed, everyone jumped in and we made quick work of the cleanup, stacking the big blocks out of the way and packing away all the targets! As always, all the help is GREATLY GREATLY appreciated!
We had another drawing for our last Noteworthy Targets swinger target for those that remained for the HP FT match. The winner of the of the deer swinger was Brian Van Liew!
