Broome County Sportsmens Association (BCSA) FT Season has come to a close! Before getting in to the report………We want to thank all that came out and made this season possible! Additional thanks go out to Tom Ryan for fabricating stands for the standing and kneeling lanes and donating them to the club! Chuck Senkus for the donation of an extended female disconnect for our air tank and for a bum bag that will be onsite for a loaner if needed! The Dunlaps for their donation towards club expenses! Bill Campbell for helping setup every match! Louis Hopewell & Nic Gregoris for also helping setup as their schedules allowed. Janet Manktelow for helping Pat with registrations, lane assignments and for keeping us all in line! This wouldn’t happen without all of you……….Thank You!
For a lot of us, the drive to the match had temperatures in the upper 30’s, low 40’s with bouts of wind and rain. Throughout sight in and the match, the wind stayed at varying levels and the temperature rose to rather balmy upper 40’s………..Yep, Fall is here!!
The start time was pushed 30 minutes for this match in order for us to allow the sun come up a bit! Pat and I arrived just as some daylight was starting to show, but still had to use a flashlight to see the lock on the gate. After all the strings were pulled, we headed over to set the sight in range up. As we headed over, Brian Van Liew pulled in and lent us a hand to finish it up. Brian also put some new backing on target stands at 75 and 100 yards. Brian wanted a 75 and Jerry LaRocca wanted to check his 0.22 at both of those distances. After that, the competitors for the day started slowly arriving. This time around we ended up with 16 brave and chilly competitors.
The course of fire was 10 lanes with 3 targets per lane. 2 shots per target with the shooting order being left, middle, right. There was also the usual 1 standing lane and 1 kneeling lane. The stats for the days 60 shot course are as follows:
We had 1 cold line this time around. Our targets are permanently mounted to 2” x 8” x 16” solid concrete blocks with plastic concrete anchors. The anchors on one of the Flopover Clover targets decided to pull out which caused the target to flip and rotate. A standard concrete block and some clamps were grabbed …………… back in business! No other target issues or cold lines for the rest of the match.
When the dust settled on the rifle match, Jerry LaRocca came out with Match High……..with a 55 out of 60 in Hunter PCP!!! Not sure if it was the cold weather or the midweek trip to PA, but he said something along the lines that everything just felt good! Following 2 points behind with a 53 in Open PCP was Brian Van Liew. Chuck Senkus rounded out the top 3 of the day with a 48 in Hunter PCP. The rest of us followed behind. The scores for the rest of us can be seen below.
After the conclusion of the rifle match, everyone jumped in and helped pick up and pack away the rifle targets and pull the strings for the pistol targets. Thank You All! We then held a drawing for the final Pyramyd Air Gift card of 2022! Pyramyd Air has graciously provided $300 worth of gift certificates to use for prizes this season!!! Pyramyd has also provided our club with targets to be used at our matches! The prize for this match was a $25 gift card. Each competitor was given 1 ticket and after mixing up the tickets in the bucket, Janet Manktelow reached in and picked one. This time Chuck Senkus had the winning ticket! Congrats!! We want to thank Pyramyd Air for their generosity and support and hope that you be sure to visit them for all your airgun needs! https://www.pyramydair.com/
We also did a drawing for a couple Noteworthy swinger targets. Jim Danvers won the snail target and Bill Campbell won the squirrel target ………Congrats!
We had 6 for the pistol/low powered non magnified/practice match! The lone non-magnifed competitor for the day was Doug Rogers. Eric Brewer and Bill Campbell shot Hunter Pistol while Nathan Thomas shot Limited Pistol. Brian Van Liew pulled out his HW97 to test out a few new mods and get some trigger time with it while I decided to take the time to do some kneeling practice with my Walther LGU.
The course of fire was 10 lanes with 2 targets per lane. 2 shots per target with the shooting order being left, right. There was 1 standing lane and the stats for the days 40 shot course are as follows:
Yep.....No Kneeling in PFT............but if the MD sets the target behind a tree root.............you do what you need to do!!!
And as always, after the match was finished, everyone remaining jumped in and we made super quick work of the cleanup! All the help is GREATLY appreciated! Even though the season at BCSA has come to a close, there are still matches left in the Northeast………….get out and enjoy!!!
