Be careful about what you ask for...

I had a similar experience about 10 years back. Ground squirrels were everywhere and my HW55 wasn't quite up to the task ( neither were my skills). All I wanted was some dead squirrels and ended up with an obsession and way too many guns. The game changer was my R9 .22- I cleared out the 40 acres I live on and then cleared out neighboring properties that are also family owned. It took a couple years of patrols several times a week. Once I slowed down they started to repopulate. Now they've gotten pretty wary and getting 2 or 3 on an outing is a big day. I've resorted to traps due to limited time in an effort to help out our farmers.

So be patient-they'll be back.
