Beeman P1 .22 open sights

Fun time this afternoon shooting my Sig Sauer Shooting Gallery.

11 yards, open sights, using JSB RS 13.43 gn pellets. 

9 shots, 9 connects on the targets. Some were zombies and needed multiple hits to go down. If the center mass target is hit very low/glancing blow on the "shoulders"/sides it'll usually fail to swing back true and not catch on the magnet. It'll keep you sharp!

Thanks guys. I got the P1/P11/HW45 bug last year and they are a lot of fun. They get shot much more than my FWB 65 and 80

crowski, your pistol may or may not need a simple breech seal upgrade to a 90D 009 O-ring. Most of my pistols needed a .004" to .007" steel shim washer behind the O-ring for supreme lock up/sealing.

I thought about one of those targets, then fixed up one. I have an old sawhorse we had been sitting old aluminum soda cans on, problem was after knocking them off you had to go down range and put them back up. I made a quick trip to the hardward store and got some small "S" hooks, closed one end on each and tied one on each end of a piece of nylon cord. One end wraps around the crosspiece on the saw horse then the other will hold the pull tab on a soda can for a nice reactive target. I had room for six of the hangers under the crosspiece, so next time the grandson is here he can have a ball. The last time they were here my son brought a couple of boxes of cans to shoot at, so we have a good supply, plus my wife likes some of the canned flavored seltzer waters so it looks like a never ending supply.

Is one caliber better than the other for hold sensitivity?

Creative solution and it sounds like it worked.


How's this for simplicity and fun: Cambell soup can or similar with a tiny hole drilled through the bottom. Slip thin wire/string through, and tie on a metal washer. Hang on a tree branch, and shoot till the can is obliterated and falls in pieces. A small piece of the can secured by the washer will remain, that'll be a fun challenge!

Is one caliber better than the other for hold sensitivity?

They're all mini alpha-generals that you'll have to negotiate with in order to act obediently and shoot small groups with. Having said that, I find the P1/HW45 in .177 to have the edge accuracy wise.

In regard of which model is more accurate it is the .177 for an often overlooked reason.

In the hand, the .22 actually feels the nicer to shoot, and leading one to assume it will be more accurate …the bigger, heavier pellet allowing a slightly more damped cycle but the .177 version does not care about its cycle…..if it is making upward of 520 fps ….At this speed the pellet has already exited the barrel by the time this slightly heavier recoil takes place….With pistols, speed is the key….and an added bonus of flatter trajectory cannot harm any.

Just be wary of tuning houses offering to damp the cycle of your P1…often at the expense of reduced speed!

One of the "problem" with the HW 45 (P1) is the 13 mm (!) rail. You can not use neither 11 mm dovetail or picatinny based mounts. And this pistol have a noticeable recoil so the mounts have to fit very well. I have tried different mounting solutions for mounting red dots, but havent found anything usable yet. Until yesterday, when I came over this. MAYBE this will take care of that. Anyone else have experience with this adaptors?

Ah, uplifting JP. One red point arrived, still waiting for the second one. And of course, the adapters from Eagle vision that I HOPED would fit, and as you pointed out are going to fit.

The secret to happiness with these guns is to use ammo that gets outta there as quickly as possible. I really love the JSB 7.3 Exact (or its cousin the Air Arms Falcon) in my .177 P1. Very smooth firing behavior, and very accurate.
