Beeman P17 pops open

well is the cross pin the hammer latch still in place, I see no way that the pistol could come open if the hammer is not damage and the cross pin is there
oh I do see there could be 1 other thing the hammer spring could be broken
if you look at this HW40 diagram parts 420-504-505 would have to be in place and undamaged

Never experienced such with mine and I have had several. I would question whether the top strap is being fully closed to engage the "hammer" (the latch on this pistol). Might possibly need to remove some casting flash, lube that latch pivot, or just firmly close the top.

I have experienced this with my P17 but I always blamed myself for trying to be gentle when closing the pistol. Remember, it’s not made in Russia.

I own both. I find the HW40 closes easier and more secure. Maybe that's why it's worth more(?)

I'd say maybe that's why it costs more. Worth more is relative. Odd that I've had 5 P17's and none did this.

P.A. Is such a great place to do business! I sent them an email requesting a return for the P 17. They are crediting my paypal and I can keep the gun. They said it not worth the money it costs to ship it.

Get in the habit of when you close the gin and the "hammer" latches/catches, push it towards the muzzle wiht yer thumb
Ive had my hands on a few p17s, and NEVER trust it to latch on its own. You can work the part of the latch that grabs that crossbar, but just thumb it into position after you close it

Don't understand this at all. Your few p17's can't be trusted to latch and all I've had always latched normally. I'd love to own the coin that makes those flips-I'd be rich.

My P17 pops open sometimes too if I don't push the hammer forward when I close it. I just got into the habit of pushing on it when I close it. I do the same thing with my Beeman P1 and HW Black Star even though neither ever popped open on me.
