Beeman P17 Question

I am a Airgun Newbie but I have considerable experience with powder firearms. I love practicing with my new P17. I am having a tough time loading the pellets though. I had the idea to take my Dremel tool and grind a shallow groove into the barrel loading port. I figure if I do this I could then slide the pellet into the proper position before pushing it in. My problem is that lots of times the pellet is canted and my finger is too fat to readjust it. The other option I was thinking about was grinding a slight bevel into the loading end to kind of funnel the pellet in. My question is has anybody done either of these modifications and is there a possible down side from doig either one of these modifications

Don't do it. If you start drilling and cutting in the breech area of the barrel you may not be able to get a proper seal and the pistol will loose pressure.
I've been shooting a P17 for a couple of months now and know that pellet loading can be a pain. Just keep using the gun and eventually you will get your technique down.

Take a look at a $10 pellet pen. Should solve your fat finger problem.

I did this exact thing on both of my p17s, using a small tapered Dremel conical stone bit and a cordless screwdriver with oil to gently chamfer the lead in area of the barrel breech. Do a little at a time and then check it with a pellet. You want some friction to develop just before it goes flush.

The only downside is if you grind too much and there is not enough friction to hold the pellet in the barrel while you close the action

Then, I polished the breech area by chucking the muzzle of the barrel into my hand drill and spinning it against the corner of a Cratex elastomeric polishing block with a drop of oil to further polish the lead in. After that, pellets slipped in flush just beautifully.

While I had the barrel out, I polished it with JB bore paste and a nylon bristle brush. Then I used the same stone (sparingly this time) and elastomer polishing block to smooth out and polish the crown as well.

Accuracy was surprising for such an inexpensive pistol.

I found this mod I performed makes loading easy beans with the Air Venturi pellet pen. Makes it a straight into the end of the barrel loading procedure. Make approximately a 1/2" diameter hole right at the bottom of the rear sight. ( picture #1 & 2) You will also have to relieve the shelf just behind the rear sight screw nut, (picture #3) this can be all be accomplished with a Dremel or a rat tail file. Will only take a few minutes because you are only removing plastic material. (Picture #4) shows straight in with pellet pen ------SURE MAKES LOADING A LOT EASIER

Measure three times, drill once.
