Beeman R9 First Serious Shooting - Fiasco

Learning to shoot iron sights is a great way to stop flinching.
I actually never used scopes till I got into airguns. I have no flinching issues whatsoever with PB's, I even did high power three position competition for a number of years shooting Garands and M-1A. Can shoot 30 cal all day. There's something about the characteristics of springer recoil that just wierds me out a little. Guess I'll just keep shooting and have fun learning.

I few days a go there was a topic on holding a springer, the "artillery hold",that may help you.
I also use one piece mounts, most have 4 lightning screws, that helps, plus you must know how to tighten them right.
You get the base tight as possible, you do not get the rings so tight they may harm the scope, also must tighten them down in order ,like make sure the gap between the bases is the same space.....you may already know this stuff....
At first I had the same problems you are having,I learned and do not have those problem any more.
Another thing is Center Point scopes can work great....for-a-while,same with BSA scopes,I do not use those any more as I want scopes to last.Good luck on your air gun journey.

I was involved in that thread a bit. I think it comes down to practice. Will be looking for a better scope as well. Got an airgun specific scope mount ordered. Regards

Well main thing is you got a gun with sights on it. So your able to shoot it without a scope when thing scoped dont work out... One of my policies is never buy a scope only gun. Thats one of the big things keepd me away from pcp. If your scope goes bad or like me prefer irons shooting your gun has the irons to keep shooting it when your waiting on a new, rma, serviced, scope . Not woshing you could be shooting it during that wait...lol. ..

My R9 puts them in there on irons so im sure yours will/can to.. 1-1/2" @ 50y = can do ... All day.

The BKLs you have are excellent mounts. But the ones you have are very narrow with a lot of clamping area. The double screw two piece would have been a better choice, and I use them with good results without a stop pin.

The heavy scope you have will also be more prone to making things shift around than a lighter one would.

A set of the cheap two piece UTG mounts with a stop pin would solve your problems easily. As would the same in a one piece version.

In my opinion adding a picatinny adapter and more rings on top of that will add a whole other set of potential issues and unnecessary complication and height. But, it will probably work and it's your rifle.

Having good pellets that fit the bore well and are the proper weight (8gr and up) also go a long way into making the gun shoot well. Don't know what you are using but I thought it best to mention it.

Thanks, I would need a taller version. The medium height rings won't clear the objective of my scope off the barrel.
My bad but this set should give you about 3 mm of objective lens clearance and solve the shifting problem. https://us.hawkeoptics.com/tactical-ring-mounts-1-2-piece-9-11mm-high.html

Note - the latch on the base must not be installed 180 degrees as it will bind.

Save your money. These work and look good also. They have the scope pin and won’t damage the scope.

Same thing on a 1-piece. I find the one piece mounts keep some longer scopes from being able to go forward enough. You may have that problem with this scope so probably the the 2 piece would be better.

I would really like a Tech-Sights option for a dovetail mount. I would put that on the rear of the rifle, remove the stock rear sight and double my sight radius PLUS get the rear ghost ring which is waaay more intuitive than the stock sights on the R9. I have tech sights on my 10/22 and it's 2 MOA. Also tried the different front sight inserts that came with the R9, some much better than others. Will start a new thread about my open sights shooting today (about 300 shots...)

I have a UTG one piece mount on order with a stop pin and slope compensation with a set of rings. Will be looking into a smaller scope for sure, something like a BugBuster or similar. So far getting best results out of the JSB Match Diabolo 7.33gr. Also the basic Crosman Domed (7.0gr) shot better than others. Regards

I sure hope its better the the ones i got from them .. good luck.

Funny i sent them a email with the pictures twice and never got a reply back from utg. Pretty sad i think.
Do not blame you at all. I’ve been using both of these styles for 2 decades and never heard nor had one like that. Amazon has free return shipping and will refund the same day it’s sent back.

I got em from amazom and maybe that same place posted above. I noticed my 2 reviews ate no longer in the reviews..lol. Wonder why? There in my amazon review history but not in the product review. Hmmmm.... Funny thing as well my amazon review of the crosman pellets has been removed ad well showing the poor packaging ( all reviews with pictures ).

Amazon took it back no issue no problem but sent a replacment just as bad as the first.. then thats another week waiting on somthing you need a week ago , ya know?. Lucky i shoot open sight 99% , but my sis gifted me a scope so..... Could not hurt her feelings throwing it on a shelf as a dust collector 😇

The one I have used the most came from Beeman not sure who manufactured it. I have not used the example I posted above but it looks to me to be robust. Gamo has one that I have used with success. Now I know these stops work. I have had them on a RWS 54 and on a 25 cal Beeman Kodiak. Both wheld the scope inplace from sliding and both guns eventually destroyed the scopes but the stops held.

I have a couple of the Sun Optics recoil scope stops after they were recommended by Jeff at Trenier Outdoors. The stop pin in them is an exact fit to the holes on top of an HW/Beeman receiver and the nylon inserts in them, as long as you mount them with a ring against them, help absorb rifle recoil. My Beeman R9 has one on it. Sadly, they don't seem to be available and haven't been for a few years now.

Vector apparently makes something similar if you can find one:

I've never had issues with either my Hawke or BKL rings but for someone who is, one of these might well help even if the purists want to say you don't need that garbage or it ruins the look and lines of the rifle or whatever else they may well say.

Funny uou say gamo , the gamo package scope one piece mount been solid works well.. what was funny was the same 2 gamos with same scopes on them one had a low and one came with a medium hight ring..lol. then that worked out best having each to use on stuff...

That scope stop bumper like steve shows may do nice also i eas thinking to buy the gamo recoil reducing rail to mount on anything to help to prevent direct receiver mounting damage that be a oops at times .. let it take any slip damage not the gun...

Gamo has a 2 piece ring set now i font recall seeing

Saddly no 30mm just in 1"
