Beeman R9 won't latch

My Beeman R9 won't latch open. I've shot thousands of pellets with the rifle with no problems and now literally between shots it has stopped latching. I see nothing broken or loose, it simply will not latch. Has anyone else had this happen, how do I fix it?

Turns out its a broken mainspring, any ideas on the best place to buy a new one?

I'm with JohnL ..I've used ARH many times . They always have had what I wanted In stock and they ship Fast !! ..I ordered springs and seal kits Tuesday night and got them in on Friday .
Jim's springs are first rate ! Its the only single spring I use in my rifles .

Thanks for the info. How common is it for a mainspring to fail? Although I think I had a good run with it, I bought the R9 about 20 years ago.......

Eventually all springs will fail , but the after market springs are usually a better fit and grade of steel

 I've had several JM springs last well over 10,000 shots and know others with 20,000+ . If ordering for JIM do use his lube (s) and pay the extra $1.00 to pre-set the spring unless your set up to do so.
